Basically they are escaping to whiteness because they don’t know who they are. This is especially important for those who insist in the rhetoric created by Trujillo suppressing our African ancestry and changing the narratives round our Arawak Taino history. The Taino committed suicide rather than being enslaved by Spaniards. You have to question the desperation of someone choosing death instead of being brutalized through various violent acts and high levels of subjugation.
