AAAH I PAINTED SPACE FOR THE FIRST TIME!!!
So, I fooled around with some "Bistre" pigment today for the second time ever and tried to paint Sammy somewhat unsuccesfully... 😅 I'm not exactly satisfied with it and I ended up retouching it a bit with brown colorpencils that match the pigment's color - because I couldn't add more Bistre without lifting previous layers. *Shakes fist* Anyway... Here is a slightly dodgy Sammy in the shade of morning coffee!
Nerdy info for the curious: Bistre is a pigment made from the soot of burned beech wood and it was used by artists during the Renaissance before the introduction of sanguine and sepia. It behaves somewhat like watercolors, but it's a bit more unforgiving (at least that's what I think).
So the dee has tried the painting style for the first time using @kiwi‘s tutorial and holy moly did it take me ages @0@
I mean, I’m honestly surprised it didn’t turn out as horrible as I thought it would haha but methinks the eyes are a bit wonky because I didn’t bother going with the more realistic approach on them. And also the anatomy is awkward because I didn’t use any references, but at least I now learnt something and hopefully I will be much better at it next time! I personally prefer the more lineart-based style I used in my sketchbook but lemme know what you guys think! ^^
tmw you just notice you didn’t draw Jazz’s lobes and you die on the inside
guys look what i painted today~~
