I guess Jim's fear came true
New AU idea:
Vendel assembles deep!Jim, hunter!Jim, gritshaka!Jim, gravesand!Jim, and beast!Jim into a Trollhunters universe Suicide Squad. It's very funny and very very violent.
Thanks to @bluheaven-adw for the convo that inspired this insanity.
At first I wanted to do it just for myself, to experiment a bit with markers, but I really like how some of them turned out, so I decided to share it with ya.
If you were to write a version of Wizards without time travel but still keeping the struggle against the Arcane Order how would you do it?
This is pretty much a combination of plans I have for the cagemates au as well as the backstory of this fic I wrote pre-Wizards. This is very self-indulgent and I doubt it makes sense but oh well.
Okay, so the story starts the exact same way, with the single change of how I’m going to be using my revised backstory for Douxie (aka there was forwards-only time travel and he’s only 17 as opposed to 900-ish). Also, Jim hasn’t been sharded yet.
I think the story would involve a teleporting castle as the kids’ home base, with them effectively going on fetch quests. There are scenes of the kids bonding with minimal adult supervision (just Archie, Merlin, Blinky, and AAARRRGGHH!!!). And, that includes the following private conversation between Jim and Douxie:
Jim: You know, you’re actually pretty cool when you’re not flirting with my girlfriend
Douxie: Uh, thanks, but I never flirted
Jim: Yes you did
Douxie: No I didn’t
Jim: Yes you did
Douxie, in a lower volume and nervous: Jim, if I wanted to cause you and Claire to break up, and I wanted to get a significant other for myself in the process... I wouldn’t have flirted with her.
Jim: Oh? Oh! Okay, that’s cool. I support you. Uh, does anyone else in this castle no?
Douxie: Just Archie.
Jim: Okay, cool, I won’t tell anyone.
(The rest is going beneath a cut because this is getting long)
Reasons why I think the changeling/troll!Jim theory could be true
Why did the amulet choose a human? Did Merlin or Kanjigar know that the Janus Order exists, and thus a Trollhunter that’s immune to sunlight/can blend in with humanity would be needed? It seems a bit unlikely.
According to an interview, there was an event in the last episodes that allows for Jim to gain a different voice that would be explained in-universe, and deep!Jim both looks like a troll/changeling and has a deeper voice (no pun intended) than regular!Jim
Jim can clearly communicate with the blood goblin, but doesn’t appear mention this to his friends, and is surprised by the fact that he can do this. Meanwhile, Steve and Eli have to use a translational device. Whether blood goblins are naturally more intelligent than regular goblins or not hasn’t been revealed (that I know of)
Jim’s deepest fear has become of himself as a troll/changeling, while previously it was of his friends and mom being petrified at the Killahead Bridge
In the second season, several characters questioned if Jim was a changeling or not
When Blinky and AAARRRGGHH!!! attempted to use a gaggletack on Jim in “Unbecoming”, he runs despite it not having an effect on him in the past. While on its own the action could seem harmless (especially given the nature of the episode), but it does look suspicious given the rest of the evidence for Jim not being fully human
Jim says to Toby that Strickler was just as likely to be a changeling as he (Jim) was, and we all know how the first part of that turned out.
During “It’s About Time” Blinky (accidentally, due to changing his train of thought) tells Barbara that “Jim is turning into a troll”. It has a reason in context, but it also seems oddly specific given later plot points.
In “Hero with a Thousand Faces”, trollhunter!Jim states that regular!Jim is caught between two worlds and eventually would need to choose between the two. However, changelings exist in both worlds but also don’t belong in either.
Why are Nomura and Strickler at Jim’s house in the end of “In the Hall of the Gumm-Gumm King”? To train him, yes, but both of them could have gotten away from Gunmar and hidden (at least temporarily) .
Jim has been compared to Peer Gynt, who finds out that he is not a human but a troll
There are probably more reasons but tl;dr it feels like there’s a large amount of textual evidence for this
Reasons why I think the changeling/troll!Jim theory could be false
It’s an actual plot point that he’s the first human trollhunter, and if Jim were part human it would take away from this
Jim’s deepest fear could just be that, since he’s a human, he isn’t a good choice to protect trollkind
Jim very well could just have a different voice because he’s 16 and going through puberty
It is very easy to overanalyze things, and I’ve been in AP English Literature for nearly a year sometimes the curtains are just fucking blue
Is it just me or does deep!Jim look older than regular Jim?
