I guess Jim's fear came true
Okay... What the absolute fuck happened with Tales of Arcadia-Trollhunters section while I wasn't active in the fandom?
After ROTT debacle, I sorta drifted away partly cause other fandoms had snag my interest and Netflix was being an unplayable ass. So today I get a Troll!Jim sketch popping up in my feed while scrolling through Resident Evil, Welcome Home and Linked Universe posts. I liked it then check out the tag only to see a huge clusterfuck of other stuff.
Another tie in series? And the ugly bomb that is Beast Jim. Whoever came up with this design, no offense, but it looks like an offbrand male troll version of the Tinkatink line from Pokemon. Now I'm all for monsters as they interest me more than human characters. Especially if written well. Hell, I'm a monster hugger of the monster loving spectrum.
Half Troll Jim is a fine beastie fella in design although the premise... it's a mixed bag as a whole. Beast Jim, absolutely not. With the half troll, you can see the resemblance to his original human form. Anytime a transformation is unrecognizable it's for the purpose of a mystery or to tell that they are too far gone.
You aren't supposed to see the man behind the 'monster' until its too late. A dear companion is now a threat, one you might have to put down. The mystique and realization delves into horror or sorrow. Beast!Jim's design does not have anything good going for it except as a example of what not to do. Just look! 👇
This 'Beast' doesn't feel Jim to me in general. His design is awkward and pisses off my artistic side as I seen way better troll designs for characters. Whether it be official artwork from the series, a different series or by passionate artists. Beast!Jim just feels like he been made with no care and love, a STAND IN for something better that never came.
I am definitely catching up on the series then redesigning Beast Jim. This is a travesty that will not be forgiven. I got enough aqua green color pencils as the color scheme is going first for obvious reasons.
That's all I have for now. Until next time folks, I'll see you back at Arcadia. Here's my reaction to Beast!Jim summed up by Nightmare Luffy.
I still wish for more screentime
New AU idea:
Vendel assembles deep!Jim, hunter!Jim, gritshaka!Jim, gravesand!Jim, and beast!Jim into a Trollhunters universe Suicide Squad. It's very funny and very very violent.
Thanks to @bluheaven-adw for the convo that inspired this insanity.
Heeres Jhames the conqueror! Or as he really prefers to be called "Jim." So at the end of ROTT where Jim uses the time stone something interrupted the process he doesn't know what it was but it fast tiny fast and blue and had a trail behind it like how the trollhunter amulet had when it teleported (wonder why?)
So after that whole thing Jim gets a rude awakening when all of a sudden he sees that he's not in his bedroom like planned but instead he's in the top part of the bridge above the entrance to the canal and to his horror when he looks at himself horrified to see that he's in his beast form and he's in a similar outfit to Bular and theres a dead body next to him that's right in the sunlight but it isn't kanjigar, it's Nomura.
So after that heart attack Jim tries to think about what happened but then he sees shannon trying to bike to school because her mom would absolutely kill her for missing one day (I'll touch apon that funstuff later!) And he screams when the amulet calls for Shannon's name which scares the highschooler off because again he's a terrifying looking troll at the moment.
After a bit a panicked toby comes soaring down the canal calling for Jim which Jim accidentally replies to despite not wanting anybody to see and toby freaks out about Jim's new look but first he reveals that he has somehow turned into a changeling (Toby's in stricklers place as Arcadia oak Hugh's changeling) which is great.
So now Jim has to deal with keeping the previous timeline a secret while trying to fix the jumbled mess that is the new timeline while dealing with resisting the craving for human flesh, hating how he looks due to the whole gumgum thing and trying to go against his role as the gumgum prince or rather the lover of the gumgum queen, yep that's right in the fucked up mess Claire is now in gunmars place! And she's not happy about it!
Go here, scroll down a bit, enjoy Beautiful Jim art! It's all of Jim's forms (human, half troll, beast). I promised not to repost the actual piece so they wouldn't lose traffic, so I'm sharing their page instead.

Okay so, if you're going to be playing around with the whole Jim as a changeling concept post canon (so he keeps the alternate form) I think you should put beast form in there too. And like it would be kind of funny if Jim just doesn't use that one, and not because like he loses control or it's dangerous or anything, but just because every time he turns back out of that one, the same thing that we saw in wizards happens (the whole crumbling stone cocoon thing) and that's just inconvenient. Do you know how hard it is to properly transport and dispose of troll parts? Cuz you can't be attracted gruesomes everywhere! You got to take the time to properly move and dispose of all of that stone, and no one wants to do that.
So Beast!Jim huh. Sketches done while my arm was fizzily.
