Defining space
To define space is to define a setting, however, not yet the entire atmosphere.
Architectural conception is the act of creating a delimited unit. When interiors are created, boxes result, they are black inside. Only by bringing in light, natural and artificial, visibility will take form. Openings of any kind will let in light, in more or minor amount. Once light and space are collaborating borders will be revealed. These borders are gradients in shading, showing us depth and dimensions.
Thus planning space means drawing boundaries, borders of light and shade. Creation of space is making a choice about restrictions, the creation of body to envelope functions.
