Defying Expectations by D.C. Emerson

Have you read this trans book?
Yes and I liked it
Yes and I didn't like it
No
No but I'd like to
I've never heard of it
Well, Aspen had done it. With their best friend Noah by their side, they came out as nonbinary, weathered the resulting divorce, and got their first drastic haircut. They’re ready to start their new life… there’s just one problem. They want Noah to be a big part of that life, and not just as a friend. Noah survived growing up under his parents suffocating expectations, came out in college and moved far away to start a new life, but there are some things he can’t run away from. When Aspen admits they have feelings for Noah, he has to come face to face with a truth he’s been avoiding for a long time: he’s not sure romantic relationships, the kind everyone seems to expect from him, are actually what he wants. So, he has a proposition. A six month trial relationship in which Aspen gets to explore nonheteronormative, polyamorous relationships, and all they entail, while Noah tries to figure out exactly what he’s doing with his life. Follow Aspen and Noah as they meet Rachel, a recently out bi woman also trying to figure out her life, and Charlie, the harried owner of a failing dog shelter.
Atypical Dead Boy Detectives Hogwarts AU:
We think we know which House fits which character the best. Charles to Gryffindor, Edwin to Ravenclaw, Niko to Hufflepuff (or Ravenclaw), Crystal to Slytherin. But the Sorting Hat takes choices into account. What if they made different choices?
“Palace, Crystal!”
She thinks about all the people she’s hurt, all the lies she’s told, all the times she pretended she didn’t care. She wants something different. She wants friends who are honest, loyal, and kind, and she wants to be that friend to other people.
“Hufflepuff!”
“Payne, Edwin!”
He thinks about the years of bullying, hiding his books and interests from the world, trying desperately not to make himself a target. He wants something different. What would it feel like to be the powerful person instead, the one making the cutting remarks? If the rules are unjust in the first place, why shouldn’t he break them, and remake the world into something better?
“Slytherin!”
“Rowland, Charles!”
He thinks about years of getting into fights, of all the times he’s thrown himself into harm’s way to protect another. He remembers his father, and shies away from the thought of turning violent like him. He wants something different. The kids with the books seem like they’d be all right to hang out with, and maybe he could learn to be the brains instead of the brawn.
“Ravenclaw!”
“Sasaki, Niko!”
She thinks of the years spent hiding in her room, the times she never spoke up in class, the opportunities she let slip by because she was too scared to try something new. She wants something different. She wants to be someone who stands up and fights for what matters.
“Gryffindor!”
Maybe things feel out of place for them at first. But they grow into the roles they’ve chosen and find they fit well. Because, despite what people might think, Niko is brave, Charles is clever, Crystal is a good friend, and Edwin is a determined rule-breaker. And Hogwarts Houses aren’t the only or best way to define people anyway.
