Blue eyes narrowed into an irritated glare at the immediate rejection, but he didn't falter or let the confidence slip from his expression. He swung himself onto the empty seat next to Sai, glancing at the abandoned food across from him and guessed that he didn't have long before they wouldn't be alone.
"You haven't even heard what I have to offer, un," he murmured, shooting a smirk that sent most people groveling at his feet. But the pale, black haired boy hardly returned his look, sipping his drink.
"No."
"Is that the only word you know, un? I can teach you another, you know."
"No."
"Hard to get, un? I see."
"No."
"That's fine," Deidara gave a nonchalant smirk as their mutual friend returned, surprised to see the blonde at the table. "I don't give up anyway, un."

The blond sighed. He’d been trying to get close to this boy for a month but every time Deidara mentally prepared himself to say something to the beauty, it slipped his mind and he ended up waving to Sai instead only to receive an awkward wave of the seemingly porcelain hand back. It was infuriating really. He’d seen the way Sai drew in the art room peacefully, the beautiful pieces that resulted from afternoon sessions. He used to think true art was the kind you could destroy, but the things Sai made were certainly meant to be treasured. It confused him that an underclassman he’d never so much as spoken a word to would singlehandedly change his perception. Such things only happened in shoujo manga. Was it strange that Sai, his kohai no less, was on his mind more often than not?
As Deidara’s hands left a new sculpture he looked out the window at the Sakura trees. He’d been so tired lately. Wiping the clay on his smock he turned to grab the scalpel only to realize he’d forgotten to get one. He had wet clay on him and couldn’t get up to grab one in the art supply cabinet. He looked around to see if there was anyone who could get him one but no one was around, which was odd. Then he looked at the clock and realized it had been three hours since school had let out. That was when the blond spotted him, the boy that had been on his mind. Deidara’s tan skin flushed pink as he noticed that they were the only two left in the room. Dammit, he was no lovestruck fool, he’d ask for that scalpel, if it was the last thing he’d do. “S-Sai, un.” Cherry lips cried softly. Black orbs lifted to look at him as Sai put down the ink pen he was using with precision. Deidara couldn’t take it and looked down at his long fingers as they gripped the end of his smock. “D-Do you t-think you could grab me a scalpel out of the cabinet, ne? I forgot to grab one.” Deidara finally got out. Ugh, he could do this, just a simple thank you and they could go back to never talking. Said boy without a word gracefully moved to fulfill the long haired blond’s request. As Sai came to hand the other boy the scalpel, their hands touched, and Sai accidently caught his foot on a stool, permitting the boxes on top to come crashing down. Deidara grabbed the others hand with the scalpel, effectively pulling the black haired boy out of the way.
Sai immediately grabbed Deidara’s hand where the scalpel had cut him and looked to the other with a shocked expression. Wordlessly the boy pulled them both up and rushed Deidara to the sink to cleanse the wound. “Y-You don’t have to, un!” Deidara protested, but Sai was determined. It was odd to see Sai a bit flustered. The younger boy reached for the first aid kit on the wall and wrapped Deidara’s hand tight with bandages. The boy offered the blond an awkward smile when all was done. Deidara pat Sai on the head. “I’ll go clean up those boxes, ne.” And without a sound Sai began to help him. “Y-You really don’t have to,” the tan boy supplied, “it’s my fault anyways.” But Sai shook his head and continued on.
Deidara ended up walking the silent boy home, with a promise to return home with Sai the next day. All the black haired beauty did was nod and give Deidara a parting wave and an awkward smile.
