Deity (first song of part 1) and Angel (the last song on this part of the playlist) are currently the two very main pieces of music for the story. Playlist sibject to change, though* I'm always finding new, amazing music.

Everything he needs to dig a grave is right here. There's a plot of loosened dirt right by the heliotrope, because that was tomorrow's job, and Seungmin looks at it and wonders again...

Through the night / IU

“What song was that? Was it yours? Seungmin spins in his chair and carefully returns the guitar to its stand. “Not mine, no. It’s called ‘through the night’. “Through the night,” you say under your breath, making sure to remember the title. “Thank you.” “For singing?”

You shush and kiss him, and the soft stroke of your fingertips get him there quickly . “We’ll clean it, we’ll fix everything.” Something relaxes in him. Seungmin’s head falls back, and the movement in his neck is hypnotizing. “How can we fix it?”

Hunger of the pine / alt-j

The rain slows a little, and half of the sky clears up enough to see the moon and stars. It’s enough to orient yourself before they disappear again behind the trees, and a quick look at the compass on your phone is the last thing you do before silence falls around you. The trees hold up the rain, and the dense fog seems to take in everything else. “Minnie!” Your voice falls flat—no echo. A twist of the knob raises the wick just a little, and the light intensifies.

Good enough / xdinary heroes

He moves closer until your arms open for him. “You’ve been there for me every single day and night.” “Have I? Have I been good enough?”

The tangent universe / michael andrews

“Who are you?” He doesn’t bother trying to hide his fear. Seungmin’s chest tightens, and his voice shakes. The smell of dirt and decay hits his nose. He has to hold back his urge to vomit as the stench gets stronger and stronger. “Please go away.” you called for me

Go steady / tender

The bathroom light illuminates things a little more—Seungmin disappears inside, and Heecheol waits motionless; breathing in shaky breaths, and letting them out quietly. What is he witnessing right now? What did his friend do?

Doubt / wye oak

Everything still feels a little bit dreamy to him, even as he looks down and sees them, face to face, arms carefully entertwined as if they can't get close enough. "They're both alright?" They were safe inside of you. They were warm, and well fed. Every night, Seungmin spoke to them, or read them stories. A few times, he sang. And now…

Wildflower / beach house (Heecheol's song)

The backyard looks the same. The greenhouse, the hanok…everything is exactly as he remembers it. It was summer when he left all those years ago, so even the wildflowers are nearly identical; the chipped paint, overgrown grass, and rotting wood is the only giveaway that so much time has passed. Heecheol half expects them—Seungmin and him—to come ripping around a corner laughing. But it’s quiet. More quiet than he remembers it ever being.

The tops of the trees swallow up the sun, and whatever signal he had back at the house. Some sound returns, though...a rustle of dry leaves, as if an animal is skittering through them; a very distant bird song. Almost there, he says, almost…

The hum returns. It feels like his brain is bouncing off the sides of his skull. If only Heecheol would reach out and squeeze it like a vice—that might make it better. “Cheoli.” He breaths. The faint feeling is coming back, and he isn’t sure he can stop it. Seungmin reaches for him, and his forearm is grasped tight by Heecheol’s good hand. “Seungmin.” He replies matter-of-factly, face blank, but his tongue darts out to lick his lips. “Come here.”

The feeling of dread you felt in the woods is here, in the house…in the bedroom, looming over him. The charm around your neck feels heavy as you sneak toward the light, but when your fingers touch it, the thing moves.

Wild eyed / london grammar

Even if she hates me, I still love her. Seungmin thinks about you in there with his children, holding them close and singing, and he feels like he could cry.

“Thank you,” he repeats, because he doesn’t think you want to hear another I’m sorry. “I love you.” It’s barely a whisper, and he knows you hear him, but you don’t say anything in return. He’s not very easy to love right now.

Angel / massive attack (shoutout to @erinknow because this was almost a different MA song🙂‍↕️)

Seungmin is somewhere between sleep and consciousness. He’s floating, he thinks, and he doesn’t like it, because his eyes are wide open and seeing everything much too clearly. The sky above him is the darkest blue, splashed with stars, but no moon; beneath him is the forest floor, and right in the center of the clearing, a yin yang.

“What…” Speaking doesn’t feel right. “What is that?” Is that what I sound like?

He looks back to the sky and counts the stars directly above him, bukdu chilseong, and wonders if he should will himself back to earth. He doesn’t want to go down there, but he can’t stay here, either. Two feet on the ground is the only way he’s going to get home.

DAY TWENTY: Do you have a favourite aspect of Hellenic Polytheism?

I love how complex the Gods are, how each Epithet teaches a whole new aspect and domain of Them and how multifaceted worshipping can be.

DAY TWENTY-ONE: Are there any retellings/adaptations of greek mythology that you LIKE? Why/why not?

I love most of them, to be honest. Even though I do not use them as sources, I love that the names of the Theoi are still relevant thousands of years later. I enjoy it when an adaptation names a hero, queen, or event I never heard of, and it peaks my curiosity to deep-dive into actual resources.

(Of course, when I see someone portraying a God as a villain I will get annoyed.)

DAY TWENTY-TWO: Is there an aspect of Hellenic polytheism you haven’t yet gotten to try but hope to in the future? Do you have any other Helpol-related goals for next year?

Oh, this one is complex, bc I dont know what I don't know hehe. But I'd say studying some resources like Hesiod's or Homer's texts, and digging deep into the epithets. I guess that's the goal, learning more about epithets and prayer structure.

DAY TWENTY-THREE: What’s a bit of UPG you have with your deities?

I don't know how to answer this. I'm still learning and I think most of my experience is UPG.

I will say that sometiemes, when doing something that comes in their domain I will feel the energy of a God I might have never prayed to. I try to acknowledge that and thank them, but I guess I don't believe that they are always "reaching out". I think that part of the Polytheism aspect of the religion is that, sometimes, deities will feel closer not because of what I am, but because of what I am doing. In other words, sometimes the energy of the deity is in the thing/action itself.

How would you go about asking a deity about associating a song with them?

I know someone who said they have a certain song that plays for a certain deity when they ask, and idk how to go about figuring that out and I think that’s neat.

Like how would you go about asking “hey what song can I associate with you”

No questions are dumb !

Shufflemancy would be a cool option here. Like let's say you invoke a deity, and then you do shufflemancy with them. You'd ask them: "Hey play a song that represents you", and see what plays.

Personally, I have a whole playlist dedicated to Apollo with songs that remind me of him. Furthermore, I've had communications with him via pendulum just asking "hey do you like this artist" or "hey do you like this song" and that's a pretty easy way to get answers about it.

So I'd recommend shufflemancy and contacting them + using a pendulum to get answers on songs they like / don't like. Good luck and I hope this helps. (I also linked my Apollo playlist if you need an example of that).

On that Persephone note though- I’m such a choir junkie and added two songs that we’ve performed this semester to my playlist for her. I think they both kind of include the two sides of her (Persephone and Kore) and have that strong yet also subtle and gentle notes that I personally connect with Persephone

21 Day Challenge - Artemis

Day 16: Create a song list that makes you think about your deity. Give a brief reason for choosing each song, and provide links to youtube videos for other people to enjoy! You can devote the energy you put into this project as an offering for your deity.

So, I love making playlists, so this was very easy for me today. The hard part was finding reasons for choosing each song, as some of them I don’t have any more reason than it just felt right. To spare both myself and you the pain of me attempting to explain why each song felt right, I just won’t include any explanations other than one prior one stating that I just feel Artemis in each of the songs.
