what’s your name/what should we call you?
Deliciouskeys or Keys is just fine thank you 😅
(I lowkey hate my real name. It starts with an H, which is a letter that I for some reason dislike, although Homelander rehabilitated it for me a little bit)
Origin of My Fic Ideas
So @deliciouskeys made this poll about how we get our WIP ideas, and tagged me in this follow-up post. (Tysm~! 😘) I tag whoever wants to do this; feel free!
As some of you know, I am picking up a new project, Chariot and Wolf (you can read the context and general premise of that o/dyseidon story here; the prologue hasn’t been uploaded yet onto AO3), but for all of my current long fic WIPS:
Chariot and Wolf
The Untold Tale
Truce
A Prince and His Baron
Green and Gold (*on hiatus*)
Finders Keepers (*on hiatus*)
I’m a voracious reader who reads at the speed of light. For me, a H/arry Potter book can be finished in one day. I regularly read light novels which boast of a chapter count of 100-300 chapters—and finish them within three-to-seven days. So for all of these stories in these fandoms, at the point where I’d initially started all of these fics, I’d literally read through all the pages AO3 has to offer of the one ship I like (at the time). I’d literally scraped the bottom of the barrel (even reading stories I typically would not read, like certain tags that would normally deter me), and was left wanting for more. This is how it always starts for me. Then I get hit with a random What-If idea. I don’t know how it sparks in my head, or where I gain that flash of brilliance, but it’s usually along the lines of: if I had to write a story for this ship, what kind of story can I tell that’s different from everyone else and doesn’t infringe on their turf?
If a week passes, and I’m still thinking about it and the idea isn’t going away, then that means it’s become an annoying distraction for me to the point that I’m thinking about it at work and at home and in my dreams, which means it won’t release its grip on me unless I manage to forget about it after maybe two-or-three months or unless I actually write it down. I can usually guess at this point if it’s an interesting concept that is solid-enough to stand on its own and be able to generate enough chapters to build out an actual bonafide story that other people might be intrigued to read, and if it’s worth taking the gamble to dedicate a huge chunk of my limited free time to write out this story.
Naturally, compounded with the fact that there were no more fanfic content that fed my desires at least at the time of each fic’s publication, I took it upon myself to pick up the pen and feed myself. And the rest is history.
Sometimes I just want to write some shameless mindlessly self-indulgent 𝘱0𝘳𝘯 for my fav ships. But my slowburn inclinations kick in—and, 𝘸𝘩𝘦𝘭𝘱, now I gotta think up a serviceable-enough plot to set up the spicy scene I actually want to write. Then, 𝘸𝘩𝘰𝘰𝘱𝘴𝘪𝘦 𝘥𝘢𝘪𝘴𝘺, somehow there’s, like, 20-some worth of chapters I accidentally plotted out in my outline. And now, I feel obligated to write it because of the sunk cost fallacy. 😂
I think The Name of the Game is the only outlier:
The idea came to me because of my adoration for this ship which has gripped me tight and a funny What-If idea that I got because of my love for the Quick Transmigration genre, and thought surely such a wild conceptual idea might not pan out well. But the possibilities. The potential. The world setting of each universe—and how I could tie it in with The Boys. Seven b/utchlander short stories, in a multiverse, one world-hopping Billy who has less reason to hate Homelander but still dislikes him, forced to get along with seven different versions of Homelander who fall head over heels for him in spite of their circumstances. I really wanted to write a dragon!Billy with hemi-peens with knight!Homelader dressed like Cullen Rutherford, Billy protecting seemingly normie!Homelander in an infinite flow/ death game universe outta misplaced sentimentality about his previous world’s HL (not knowing the contestant by his side is steadily becoming more and more obsessed with him), Billy as a paparazzo and an actor!Homelander in a Scientology-adjacent church-like cult, etc—until we reach the second to last penultimate arc, which is a Fix-It of The Boys S4-5, because I am already preparing myself to be disappointed and made mad by the writers’ questionable script choices, haha. I tweeted the idea and shared on the Boyscord Discord, and to my surprise there were some genuine interest. Hence, this now exists. 135 chapters, dear lord. I’d always lowkey wanted to write a QT story ever since a reader commented they’d love to see me write one, so I used this as an opportunity to test the waters.
✨🌈SEND THIS TO OTHER BLOGGERS YOU THINK ARE WONDERFUL. KEEP THE GAME GOING🌈✨
My favorite thing about me and you is that we completely disagree about Butcher and Butchlander but it's still totally cool! Cozy Corner 4 Lyfe 😤😎
😈🌈💭
Thank you for the ask, mwah mwah mwah <3
😈 Is there anything you enjoy doing that you think your readers hate?
Not enjoy per say, I think I have some repetitive tropes that I use in most fics that really doesn't give any further depth or range to my writing
🌈 What inspired you to write Moon Pie?
It started out as a drabble (I have a whole GDoc of them). Just the idea of Homelander angrily eating out Luna did something to me.
💭 What is a headcanon you have about your own work?
That my writing is distinctly average. There will always be better writers than me and I have a tendency to compare my writing to others. I am my own worst critic and I will always view my work as poor.
