My Delivery Story
For anyone who is expecting a little bundle of joy (mom or dad) it's tiring. Very tiring. Let me tell you, I thought I wanted to have my son with me from the second he was born until forever. My son was born at 4 AM I had been awake since 5 AM the previous morning. The nurse left him with us an extra hour (they said my delivery triggered all the other labors on the floor). When they took my son to the nursery I insisted that my bf to follow them because hello switched babies do happen. I was exhausted, tired, by that time I'd been up for 26 hours. I was induced at 41 weeks, had very very light contractions but they induced me anyways since I was already scheduled to do so. Alot of people are against inductions, I was one of them. I wanted my son to come when he was ready to do so. I talked to my doctor alot about it and we agreed it was the best because he seemed to comfy inside of his pent house. My doctor was the absolute best, I told her I want a c-section as a last option. She said she doesn't like doing c sections Unless they are absolutely necessary. Most doctors give a time frame for natural birth then go to c section and she didn't like that. The nurses were amazing, I was a bit skeptical because the nurse I had had only begun at my hospital. But it turned out she ran the entire floor in a small hospital just outside Lubbock, TX, I felt better. My son was the first baby she delivered in El Paso. I really wanted to go as natural as possible. I had my boyfriend, my mom and two of my sisters, both have had kids. One of them never had contractions and she wanted to know what they were like. I was rolled up in a ball trying to breathe away the pain and the only response I could give was period cramps to the level of a trillion times infinity while needing to poop. When I started crying from the pain I decided I needed an epidural or I was going to send my child into distress. I had asked for an epidural before nightfall because after night they don't have an anesthesiologist in the building, and they have to call them in. When he came in everyone had to leave due to sterilization and stuff like that. He was flirting so much with the nurse that he forgot to tell me that the little button he gave me was so that I could push it every 15-25 minutes to release more of the medicine. (I was only told this about an hour before I delivered and he was mad because he had to come back and check the drip because I was in complete pain, I swear I thought I broke my boyfriend's hand). I told him that he never told me and he said that he did which I know he didn't. After the epidural was placed in and I could lay down with out hurting, I was slipping into sweet sweet bliss, I watched First Lady Nancy Regan laid to rest peacefully. Talked to my mom awhile, my boyfriend came back in after going down to eat. And at some point I slipped a little too far into the bliss. Some med students came in to do check ups and questions, and all of sudden my hands felt like I had just discovered them and they were some funny things attached to me, the guy asked if I was alright and I couldn't speak, I was about to pass out before I manged to shake my head no. They got the nurses in and my oxygen level had dropped so I was on oxygen the rest of the night. My family members went home after awhile since it was looking like I wasn't going to deliver that night. All I wanted to do was eat food, not ice chips, but food. At one point I asked if I could go pee and I was told no, instead a tube was inserted into my urethra. Didn't feel a thing down there but I could pee yay. Nurses would come and check how far I dilated and I was progessing slowly. At one point they had received orders to break my water since it wasn't going to happen on its own. It was around this time my epidural was wearing off. Once they got me back in the rhythm of the epidural I was clicking every 15 minutes, numbing waist down. Now here is what they don't tell you, it numbs the pain, but not the pressure. And oh my sweet potatoes, it's so ugh there isn't a word for it. It feels like you need to go poop and for the love of humanity you want to send everthing and everyone to space like they did in Wall-E. I kept calling in the nurse to check my dilation because it felt like he was coming and I couldn't not not push. (Because they tell you not to try to relieve the pressure by "pooping" because that need to poop is the baby coming). Finally they said they needed to wait for my doctor and I asked if she was on the way and they said she was. I pleaded if we could start without her, and the doctor said to go ahead because she was in the parking lot. Now let me tell you, there was alot of people in that room, 3 nurses, my doctor and her aid, some other technician and my boyfriend. At this point my legs are in the stir ups. I didn't care how many people where looking into the most intimate area of myself. I just knew it was their job to do so. They would tell me when to push and when not to. Now I didn't have to longest delivery, it was maybe at the most 20 minutes of pushing and breathing. But the last time they had told me to push while I contracting they had also said to stop and I was like no no no no I can't stop, there is no stopping so I kept pushing and out popped out my son the doctor put him on my stomach and I touched the slimy gooey human in front of me while they cleaned him off and my boyfriend cut the umbilical cord. The end? Nope. I began shaking and teeth quivering. Don't be scared it's actually normal, it's all due to hormonal levels changing drastically so quickly. My boyfriend was freaked out. And there I was shaking getting stitched up. Baby was being cleaned up measured and weighted and documented my boyfriend was informing the family of the birth of sweet love. I didn't cry when my son was placed on my chest and nestled into me and moving closer and closer to my face. It's not that I didn't love him. But I am a very paranoid person and I felt that if I had too strong of emotion at the moment something would go horribly wrong. I was happy and relieved that the three of us were together. And that was all I needed. After they took my son to the nursery around 6 AM, they removed the epidural and I could lay down comfortably. As my boyfriend came back from the nursery, the nursed helped me to the restroom. Carefully she helped me sit on the toilet she explained how to cleanse myself and everything. I hadn't even realized that I had zoned out. I was about to pass out again I had my hand on the bar but the rest of my body, waist up was swaying back and forth all I could hear faintly was the nurse saying my name, I looked up to her and she leaned me back got a nurse to bring in water and helped me regain full consciences so that I could finish my business and get back to the bed where I was put back onto oxygen. After not having eaten anything for the past 32 hours I was brought the most delicious, glorious, satisfying tuna sandwhich of my life. My boyfriend gave me a kiss and I fell asleep until about 8 or 9 AM. And since then I haven't had a full night sleep and I probably never will. I am a Mom a full time mom. Motherhood comes with alot of things. And I wouldn't change a thing about it. My sweet potato is now 6 months and the center of my universe. Momma & Daddy loves you ♡ [For anyone who reads this, I will be posting more later on in this blog. The good the bad and the ugly. The parts about motherhood they don't tell you and the expections coming into motherhood and everything in between. I'm still a new mother too so I don't know everything.
