I just have to say something:

Awhile ago I had a conversation with a fairly well educated mental health advocate. We discussed psychosis related disorders.

They told that they didn't support people with these disorders being able to seek help and prosecute against harm, abuse, and other mistreatment against them because of their delusions and hallucinations.

I said that just because someone experiences those things doesn't mean they can't also be a victim of real life abuse.

They said that they were delusional and therefore couldn't tell if abuse happened. They refused to accept the idea that a person who experiences psychosis could be a real victim.

PLEASE support and protect people with schizophrenia, psychosis, and delusions. They are vulnerable to abuse, they are vulnerable to never being believed.

They experience so much hatred and harassment and villianization.

One more time:

PLEASE SUPPORT AND PROTECT PEOPLE WITH SCHIZOPHRENIA, PSYCHOSIS, AND DELUSIONS.

Imagine a nightmare where everything seemed to be in its right place, except for the people. Where the figures had the faces and bodies and voices of those you loved and knew well, but something about them was utterly, unexplainably not-them. Where these not-right strangers did nothing sinister, nothing out-rightly cruel, but instead mocked the memories and visages of family and friends just by pretending to be them. 

Those with or vulnerable to Capgras Syndrome live with the possibility of waking up to this nightmare every single day. While it may not be everyone they know, people who experience this syndrome will have an irrational belief that at least one person they or recognize has been replaced by an imposter. It can be caused by schizophrenia, brain injury, dementia, or Alzheimer’s disease.

Therapist who just don't get it

So I've finally decided that I will definitely not get therapy. That one lady... She tried to tell me that most self-diagnosed people have delusional disorders. I haven't known who I am for so long! I can remember feeling alone and apart from the children in elementary school because I didn't know myself. Is that delusional? Was my childhood trauma delusional? All of it a hallucination? Really, if that's the only explanation she has as to why there's so many people not seeking treatment she isn't qualified. I won't seek treatment because of the chance of getting a therapist who doesn't understand or refuses to find a solution other than integration. Obviously, I am not happy. If there are any therapists out there who fully understand DID--then amazing. You guys are beautiful people. Please educate the others.
