Lol don't remind crowley about this duck.
Apparently SMT1 had enemies based on Donald Duck and Mickey Mouse in Tokyo Destiny Land, which don’t even exist on the MegaTen wiki and I don’t recall ever seeing! Any thoughts on these characters? Pic related is different designs from the PC Engine version, apparently. Thanks to /smtg/ for sharing.
Gotta say, this topic turned my world upside down. Firstly, I had no idea the PC Engine version had these sprites! And they are indeed real going by the game’s JP Wikipedia page (see ゾンビマウス/Zombie Mouse and デモンダック/Demon Duck) and subsequently this video. I cannot confirm it but I also saw some rumblings of the idea that they were originally intended for the SFC release.
But then there’s the matter of these versions of “Zombie Mouse” and “Demon Duck” I always thought were obvious fan sprites:
This is what blew my mind. Searching for the PCE stuff I encountered this page, showing that these sprites appeared in an official publication:
These are from the DDS 10th Anniversary book, originally published in 1997 though these scans are from my reprint from 2000. Almost every page in the book has tiny repros of demon sprites or other art next to the page numbering and they’re easy to overlook. Either these are jokey leftovers from SMT1 or remnants of an ancient meme from DDS-NET. Still, I can’t believe these are “real”!
