Highway liquor ban: Maharashtra may see 2,000 km of roads denotified If all the local bodies in Maharashtra opt to 'denotify' the parts of state…
Yesterday I photographed the Uchliya tribe from the DNT (denotified tribes of India) Sadly this group was living in Mumbai under a bridge overpass. Children forced to sell trinkets on the street. No chance of education here. Here an older woman poses for a portrait. No chance of education or even an Indian identity all this because the British labeled them as criminals so many years ago. The Indian gov’t removed the name (Notified and Criminal but the damage had been done. #enough #Uchliya #India #Denotified #criminaltribesact #thebirthlottery #davidgoldmanphoto #photojournalist (at Mumbai, India)

Yesterday I photographed the Uchliya tribe from the DNT (denotified tribes of India) Sadly this group was living in Mumbai under a bridge overpass. Children forced to sell trinkets on the street. No chance of education here. One of the saddest things I have seen on this trip was when a man came to me and said that I should photograph his daughter whom he said had been burned. I went over and found this woman lying on a bed in the middle of the dirt on a bed. She was burned from her neck and down her chest over her breast. She lay there in pain not able to move. They do not have money to take her to a hospital. There may be free medical care at a government hospital but they are afraid that her kidney may be stolen. She is left with absolutely no options. All this because the British labeled them as criminals so many years ago. The Indian gov’t removed the name (notified and Criminal but the damage had been done. #enough #Uchliya #India #Denotified #criminaltribesact #thebirthlottery #davidgoldmanphoto #photojournalist #educateorganizedight (at Mumbai, India)
A man washes himself in the early morning light as he wakes. He is part of the Vader tribe. He is part of the DNT #denotified tribes. Labeled as “criminal tribes” by the British. They have suffered with no political representation. They are lower than the lowest caste of India. They cannot vote, have a hard time getting an education and live in almost exclusively abject poverty.
