TikTok is finally targeting me. Get this: I posted a three-minute video on the history of Thanksgiving and National Day of Mourning. It was promptly put "under review". No change during the course of over half an hour. I posted in my Stories about it, because I was annoyed.

I tried deleting it and re-posting it, this time with one different hashtag, only to see the same results. I posted about this in my story again, and realized not a single person had viewed the second Story, which is highly unusual.

SO THEN, I decided to experiment. I posted another, very short video of a few seconds just asking my followers if they could see me. Checked on it a bit later, saw that it had ZERO views, and tried to copy the link...only to discover THIS ONE had been placed under review TOO.

AND AND AND, I also got this notification, which I can't even appeal for some reason. I did NOT set the video to Private. My videos are ALWAYS set to "Everyone". This is nonsense.

Aside from being highly irritated because I spent a helluva lot of effort on the original video, I am deeply worried that I am finally a target for removal from my favorite platform. But I can't even warn all my followers because I CAN'T EVEN POST ANYTHING.

I don't know what to do aside from wait. But I have a very ugly feeling that the Creator Fund will no longer be a viable option for income soon.

West Papua comprises the western half of the island of New Guinea, sharing a border with my home country, Papua New Guinea. It lies 200 km north of Australia. West Papua was originally home to Indigenous Melanesian people for thousands of years. It was then colonised by the Dutch in 1898 and was set on a path toward independence, separate from Indonesia, until things changed in the 1960s.

In 1969, under heavy military intimidation and coercion, a UN-organised referendum called the "Act of Free Choice" was held. Instead of a legitimate vote, Indonesia selected 1,026 representatives who voted to remain part of Indonesia. This vote, widely condemned as fraudulent and called the "Act of No Choice" by Papuans, led to decades of violent and oppressive Indonesian occupation to this day.

He devoted a significant part of his professional life to reporting on Latin America, and especially Brazil, becoming one of the clearest and most courageous voices denouncing the destruction of the Amazon rainforest. Phillips worked with major international media outlets and spent years reporting from the field, with rigor and determination, on issues many preferred to ignore: illegal deforestation, poaching, illegal fishing, criminal trafficking networks, local corruption, and the systematic violence directed at Indigenous communities and environmental defenders. In 2022, he traveled to the Javari Valley region—one of the most remote and vulnerable areas of the Brazilian Amazon—to gather evidence and testimonies for a research and writing project focused on the protection of the rainforest and the survival of Indigenous peoples. In that territory, criminal groups involved in illegal exploitation had turned the forest into a silent war zone: a conflict without uniforms, where those who speak are eliminated. On 5 June 2022, Dom Phillips was murdered together with Bruno Pereira, a Brazilian Indigenous affairs expert. Their journey ended exactly where truth becomes dangerous—where illegal profit collides with witnesses. Their bodies were hidden in the forest, as happens when murder is meant not only to kill a person, but to erase a message. Dom Phillips did not die by chance. He was killed because he documented what many want buried: that the Amazon is not being “used,” it is being looted; that water, land, and the lives of Indigenous peoples are treated as obstacles; and that behind certain economic interests there are threats, weapons, and complicity. His death is an international wound and a clear symbol: when a man is eliminated for telling the truth, the blame is not on the jungle, not on fate, not on “crime.” The blame lies with the system that protects profit and fails to protect life. I publish these portraits to remind young people of real history: not the polished version offered by media narratives, but the true history of ethical and moral human beings who died for the people, for human dignity, and for the world’s resources. Those who gave their lives for truth must not be erased by indifference.
