Why does Scott McCall seem to loose in every single fight, then magically find his way right back up again? Is he some sort of prophesied Werewolf Jesus?
A lot of Fandom say this is humbug, and I agree, Scott McCall is a weakling, easily manipulated and with no actual power of his own, but that doesn’t mean that other characters in the show might think of him that way.
Now, please, don’t get me wrong, this is by no way a “I hate Scott McCall” hate post, no. This is a meta about why I think Scott McCall doesn’t have any actual physical power as a werewolf. I quite enjoy Scott’s character, and I’m in love with our little frat puppy Posey. (Not literally though, but I wuv him, if you understand)
So why is this surfacing in my mind now? Why haven’t I thought about this before? Well, the thought didn’t fully occur to me before episode 501, where Scott takes on “Rave Wolf” as we so lovingly call our first monster of the season. I couldn’t understand how Scott could magically get up from Rave Wolf practically sucking out Scott’s powers through his augmented Harpy claws. A g a i n. How come Scott can turn every battle he enters into his favour? Well, that’s actually exactly my point. He can. he literally can turn every battle into his favour.
Now, before we get to the point let’s focus on our dear mentor Deaton. Deaton is the one who told Scott about the Pain Drain ways back. (I’m sorry I’m not making any direct references, but its midnight here and I’m getting up at 6am to watch episode 503 with friends and I haven’t seen the old episodes in ages. I know, excuses excuses) Anyways, Deaton. He tells Scott how to use the pain drain. Deaton’s an old Werewolf emissary, Scott’s long time work boss, why wouldn’t trusting Scott trust Deaton’s every word? Because that’s what Scott does, he trusts Deaton that when he uses the pain drain he heals the people he’s been in contact with. Well, not heal. Deaton makes sure to tell him that it only takes away the pain, it can’t make people physically better. (You didn’t know that part, did you Stiles, you only assumed... sorry that’s another meta entirely)
BUT what if that’s not the entire truth? What if it isn’t pain he’s taking away, but quite like a numbing agent, it makes you stop feeling pain, because Scott is taking away something else. Power. (No wonder the Nogitsune wanted in on that feast) So when Scott uses his pain drain he also takes away a persons power, and he might have even done so subconsciously many times. As he fights. What if Deaton telling Scott about the pain drain is a way to make Scott learn it better, learn to use it and not fear it. Had Scott known that the pain drain wasn’t to help people he would never have even tried doing it. Because Scott is morally black and white.
In Episode Silverfinger in 3B, the big brute asks where Scott’s power is. He’s the almighty True Alpha so where’s his bite? (Pun intended) Where Aiden and Ethan comes to his aid thankfully, but our True Alpha would have been able take him down quite easily on his own.
Because you see, being weak is Scott’s strength. If he fights a stronger opponent he will always end up winning, because he can literally steal every one else’s strength. So it’s not a pain drain, it’s a power drain, and Scott is using it without even knowing. It couldn’t have been hard fighting off Rave Wolf when he so willingly inserted his power draining claws into Scott’s stomach. He drained Rave Wolf of his strength and easily defeated him with a few left hooks and a right swing. Rave Wolf was powerless, no point in the doctors to give him more. He might have been a test run for all we know. But what if there was something else mixed in with the Harpy claws, and as Scott sucked Rave Wolf dry of power he also ended up absorbing a poison or something similar. (Which in my mind will help greatly with Scott’s dark arc) it might not even have been the Doctor’s intention.
But then we come to the big question, who will be able to defeat Scott McCall if he can defeat every single opponent that is stronger than him?
Only someone that is weaker than Scott will be able to take him on, or someone that is equally matched.
Someone whose just as badly in control as Scott. Someone who gets so easily frustrated as of late that he ends up controlling the weather and healing his own broken hand when Scott tries to make him feel better. Someone like Stiles... BECAUSE HE’S POSSESSED BY NOGI.
Sorry, I invaded my own meta with my own crack meta (it’s not crack, he’s still possessed but no one believes me)
Now, seeing as this is utterly long from before, I’ll leave you to do your own little research into Norse Mythology. Look up the story when Thor goes to Utgard to the Jotuns and he ends up accepting a challenge from the chief, only to end up in battle with old age herself and gets easily defeated.
