They were not close, especially not after becoming responsible for their own kingdoms, but they maintained good relationships, and hoped their descendants would as well
A canon fact I sometimes think about is the fact that Deremor, as a sort of anarchist kingdom, makes almost all their decisions through public polls. Everyone has good access to the polls, everyone has a right to answer, and some decisions will only be taken after a significant portion (read: at least over 3/4s) of the population votes, no matter how long that takes. There is a whole significant online space dedicated only to polls. And of course, there are very strange or silly ones. The all time most popular most answered poll ever is a "what's your favorite food" poll. It is treated very officially, with long lists of individual answers and graphs showing like what foods are more popular where and when, and it's all very cool, but it is really just "what's your favorite food"
