(gender anon 1) thank you for taking the time to answer !!! i've been feeling really frustrated because, while i'm on board with both new genders and new definitions of masculinity and femininity, i think we have to chose between the 2 of them in order for things to keep making sense. like, i think these 2 concepts are trying to accomplish the same thing but for each of them to work the other has to stay unchanged, because when they are considered together we just get

(gender anon 2) a pile of words devoid of meaning. it kinds of reminds me that one argument i had with a guy who insisted that everything could be called "art" and i strongly disagreed because if everything is art then art doesn't exist, you know what i mean ? it loses it's meaning, it doesn't have a weight or a value anymore. sorry i'm getting sidetracked. thanks again for your answer ! while yeah it didn't exactly.. answer it, reading your thoughts on the question really cleared my mind. <3

Hey! I’m glad my rambling helped. Yeah, I get what you mean entirely. I don’t think the stereotypes of masc/fem is something we can or should necessarily just chuck out as a whole, especially since a lot of people base their identities on those placeholders, and how close to or far away from traditional masc/fem they are. Going forward in the future, I think it’s more going to come down to individuals, and what they actually mean about themselves when they say “I’m a man/woman” vs others assuming what they should look like, dress like, and be interested in based on their gender/pronouns.

Example that comes to mind is a post I remember about someone who worked at McDonald’s and had to offer Happy Meal Toys, but didn’t gender the toys

Employee: “Does your child want a Hot Wheels or a Barbie toy?”Parent: “He’s a boy, so....”Employee: “So.... does he want a Hot Wheels or a Barbie?”
