“Au pied du mur”, the 2018 debut full-length from Lyon’s Faux Depart was a wholly accessible, flawlessly executed French punk in the vein of The Dogs, Les Ablettles or Les Olivensteins, showcasing a well cultivated pop sensibility. There’s the playfulness of call-and-repose balanced by the infectious, saccharine hooks of songs like “Un jour”. They’re also completely frenetic and absolutely fucking ferocious when need be (“Pôle emploi”, “Le voisin”). In that regard they share as much with modern French punks like Litovsk, Better Off Dead, and Kronstadt,

I feel like a band pulls off the aforementioned moves in total once a decade and they are usually, if briefly, rewarded for it. Yet seemingly nobody outside of small scenes in France seemed to pay much mind when their debut dropped. So now their sophomore album, “Merci pour vos services”, gives you a new chance to get antiquated. Out January 30th via several hundred labels: Destructure, Les Chœurs De l’Ennui, Echo Canyon Records, Colilla discos, Mutant records & Tocsin.
