“what’s having a sibling like?” adrien himself is an only child, his mom couldn’t have any more even if she wanted to. so the idea of having someone else grow up with you is a bit of a weird concept. “blythe mentioned there were more.” / adrien @ dethglory
"It's a giant pain in the ass."
Piers smiles as he says it, clearly not meaning it, or at least not boiling the entirety of being a brother down to nuisance. His time growing up has been a busy one, full of the expectations of parents and the rapid pursuit of his own career, with no time off for college or jobhunting. He'd had those little runts at his side for almost all of it.
"Blythe's my younger sister. I mean, you knew that already." he says. "There's two others. Silas is 17, and Nicholas is 14."
He and Blythe got hit with the wistful influence from their mom, resulting in their rather offbeat names--Piers, named after their grandfather, and Blythe named after their grandmother. After that, their dad had put his foot down and insisted on more 'normal' names for their kids. Mom had still managed to sneak some saint names in there, though.
"It's a lot. Never really a break. Especially if you're the oldest." he says, looking down at Adrien. "But it's the best thing in the world, too. I was too young when Blythe was born to really understand what was going on, but I got to hold Silas after he was born, and Nick, too. Mom and dad worked really hard making me understand how important it was that I look after them. Taught me all about what being a big brother is supposed to be. How you chase off the bullies and help with the homework, and share your crap even though it was yours first."
Fondness for his family overflows from Piers in this moment, and the smile on his face is so genuine it's like looking at a different person entirely from the serious, overly-coordinated man he usually is, obvious from his tone and expression that he deeply misses them nonetheless.
"You don't get to make mistakes anymore, 'cause everything has to be an example for the younger ones. But you chin up, because every time they're upset or scared, that was you, once. And when you do something they think is cool, it's the best feeling in the world."
He does, he misses them. It's because of them that he's here, trying to protect the world and make it safer for them, but he does think often about how long it's been since he saw them.
"You'll never have someone who's close to you in quite the same way a brother or sister is." he says. "It's annoying at times, but it's the best, really." @dethglory
