Question: Why am I worried and uncomfortable about getting proficient with western hermetic qabalah?
Card: 3 of cups, (advice:) 3 of pentacles
Resources used: LWB, LearnTarot (website)
I wanted to see how this deck reads for me some more because I was seeing a lot of talk from people on the forum (mostly from old threads) about how the deck put them off or made them uncomfortable or how they would never get it, etc.
To riff, the three of cups is about friendship, titled abundance in the thoth, is mercury’s decan of cancer, is about communicating your feelings and celebrating social bonds.
It talks about feeling exuberant, enjoying friendship, sharing, and valuing community. It talks about the emotional aspect of social bonds, support, your attachments to groups from an emotional pov.
I can see this a lot of ways. I can’t share freely what I’m learning with my mom because she’s a christian and would see it as satanic. I live with her and we’re close enough but I worry the deeper I go with this stuff, the harder it will be to not share or slip up and might make me feel alienated from her, or worse she’ll threaten to kick me out if I don’t stop or get rid of my tarot decks or books or something. Or worse, she’ll throw them away herself. I don’t think that will happen but it worries me. Or we’ll have an argument. So it’s important I do not share what is going on.
I have others I can share some with. My partner I can share everything about this stuff with. My friend might not be interested but I can share some stuff with. And I have the tarot forum.
But I’m worry it’ll bleed into my life and I’ll be so consumed with it that it’ll slip out. And also the whole feeling alienated in my relationship to her.
What’s the advice? I’ll pull another card.
I wonder if this is just reiterating to find social support elsewhere. The three of pentacles, to riff, is about team work, working together with people to create something new, working with people who have different expertise than you to create something new, commissioning someone, making an effort.
Let’s look at LearnTarot.
It talks about working as a team, planning, and being competent. It talks about contributing to the group. It talks about coordinating resources and drawing on your skills. It talks about being task oriented and working towards a common goal. It says you can attract capable people and create a successful environment. “Know that the situation is (or will be) in good hands, but be sure to concentrate on excellence in your work. Be proud of what you do and how you do it. Then you will accomplish your "impossible" mission.”
I think this is saying the tarot forum is a good place for me to study and share. Maybe I can even create a Thoth study club. Or just make a journal and share my progress. Maybe a club already exists. I guess if I am with likeminded people, I will be able to share my feelings and progress and have that need filled without it spilling over into inappropriate areas of my life. And also I’m kinda already starting a study group with my partner so I will be able to share with him. If I focus on it as a practical matter or task too maybe I won’t become emotional about it?
I like how this deck reads for me. It’s not hard, it’s pretty easy so far. Though I’m not just relying on the cards right now and am still using guides. Then again, the LWB is familiarizing me with the deck and is super helpful.
(I think to connect more to the imagery, the 3 of cups is also making me think of if I face difficulties and successes I would want to share that and celebrate with someone.)
Alright, that’s good for now.
