𝑵𝑶𝑻𝑬𝑺 | finally back home!! Also had drama as soon as i got back home so sorry for the slow delay. Also sorry if this was shorter than the others. I love writing long chapters but this was basically more of a filler type of chapter, just them two realising how much they like (love) each other. But the next chapter will def be longer 🖤
When you wake you notice two things. That you were not in your marui, the usual sight of your woven floors and ceilings were replaced with the early dawn lights. The sky a beautiful painting of pinks and purples, the blue slowly overtaking.
The second, most obvious of things you had taken note of was the warmth that enveloped you, the firm and muscular chest pressed against you from behind. The arms wrapped tight around your waist.
You let out a soft hum as you fall further into the warmth, willingly to spend the entire day in this comfort.
Until an irritating voice interrupts your peace.
“Sarentu! Awake wth yourself already. The eldest Sully did not return, we are sending a searching party, you will join us”
Neteyam? Missing…
You gasp, throwing yourself up and out of the warmth as you roll to the side and look back. Your tail whips wildly, ears pinned back as your eyes rove over the sleeping form of Neteyam.
You barely remember what happened after crying in his arms after speaking of your sister. He had calmed you, arms holding you close to him, his words soothing and touches kind.
You never would’ve fallen asleep if it was anyone else, never would’ve even indulged in your past to someone who was essentially a stranger.
But it was like your soul had known him, an aching, ancient thing that allowed what was against the norm to feel. Natural.
Yes it was natural the way you trusted Neteyam so explicitly, natural in how you could feel him even when miles apart.
You study how the dawn of the light shines on his face, the soft blush upon his cheeks. No weary lines or frowns on his face from the anxiety of being the oldest sibling and protector of his family.
“__. Are you listening? Come back to HQ so we can pla-“
“It’s fine. I’m with Neteyam now”
“…of course you are. Come back now before you send his family into a panic”
You turn off your coms, not bothering to answer So’lek. Your eyes focused on the boy before you, happy to see that he hasn’t moved from his spot. Content that he seems to be sleeping peacefully.
Slowly you walk back towards him, sitting on the ground and carefully lifiting his head from the grass to rest upon your lap instead.
Your heart pounds as he shuffles, head pushed further into your lap before he settles. A soft smile rests upon his face and you can’t help but mirror it yourself.
Your hand coming down to gently brush back his hair, fingertips tracing along the bridge of his nose. You huff when his nose twitches before relaxing again, and continue tracing the shape of his face.
You knew you probably should be awaking him up, to not let his family stress out even more after all they’d been through.
But. You just wanted this small moment of peace. Of just the two of you. Neteyam wakes to the world with the most beautiful sight before him.
You’re not looking at him, don’t even know that he’s awake, but that doesn’t stop the way your hand traces nonsensical shapes against his the collar of his skin.
His entire body lights up, thankful his tail is stuck under him. Unable to make a scene with how bad he wants you to keep touching him, how much your presence is enough to make him feel so dazed and in love.
Yes. He has come to terms that what he feels for you cannot be anything but love.
It’s insane, enough to warrant even Lo’ak calling him a skxawng. And he wouldn’t disagree, he knows how crazy he sounds.
But seeing you fight, the strength in your body as you took down the RDA, how you inadvertently protected his family for him. Saving him where he had almost failed.
The power, the strength and kindness your heart held was enough for him to be intrigued by you. Carrying yourself with confidence as you accepted their ask for safety.
And then he had seen a small glimpse of a playful side, the unintentional comment that left your mouth. The way your eyes went wide, the fierce blush that covered your face as you flew away before he could even say something.
And once again, that protectiveness you held for him and his family, even when your own brother had said they were better off being left for dead. Didn’t even bat an eye at his words, didn’t even stop to think if he was right. Instead you turned to him, eyes shadowed with sympathy, apologising for the words Nor had said.
Asking him to trust you, to believe that you would not allow harm to befall his family. You had reached out a hand, a metaphorical olive branch.
And he had taken your hand, trusting in a strangers word. Despite how his soul sung to him, that you were no stranger at all.
But it didn’t stop there. You continued to be this bright light he couldn’t keep his eyes from, tracking your movements the entire time they ate.
The way you would throw your head back as you laughed, how you indulged in listening to Teylans’ rambles about everything and nothing. Checking on his family, making sure that everyone had enough food. Even the way you treated Spider, no animosity as you spoke to him, no treating him like he was some freak.
Neteyam had been watching you the entire time, unable to pull himself from your orbit.
And then when it was just you two, standing chest to chest. Your eyes shined with an emotion he couldn’t place, the reverent way you touched his scar. A reminder of how close he came to dying, of leaving behind his family.
Of never meeting you.
Perhaps it was being on the precipice of death that made it so easy for him to fall in love. Of having been forced to grow up quicker in a war he never asked to be part of, to be a solider so he could protect his family. Protect his people.
Neteyam had seen how easy to was to die with regrets, every ‘what if’ every ‘maybe next time’. It didn’t matter in the end. All it is, was a reminder of everything that could’ve been.
He wasn’t going to let this go. He would fall into this embrace of uncertainty and hope that it would end with you.
His hand moves from his side, slowly as to not alert you, before he fingers curl around your wrist. A boyish grin on his lips when your head snaps down to him.
“You’re awake” is all that you say, eyes crinkling as you smile down at him. You don’t try and break free from his grip. Rather you turn your hand around so your fingers entwine.
“You’re holding my hand”
You raise a brow at him, the dumb almost puppy-like look on his face as you lean over him, hand never leaving his as you draw yourself closer to where he lays out on your lap.
“You grabbed me first”
“I’m pretty sure I was on the ground when we slept. Not in your lap. Not that I’m complaining”
Neteyam, grins when you let out a faux scandalised gasp, your free hand coming from your side to lightly slap his chest.
You looked so beautiful above him, his eyes taking in every single inch of you. From your alluring eyes, to the stars that lined your skin in complicated patterns. Your scent was enough to drive him crazy, pushing himself further into your lap to be closer.
“You should’ve woken me up. We’ve been out all night, your family is worried. So’lek told me they were sending a search party to look for you”
Neteyam felt his chest twist in guilt, he could’ve let his brother know through their comlink. But it swept his mind, his entireity focused on nothing but you in his arms.
He would let them know he was safe, unharmed. I mean how couldn’t he be when he was with you. He knew that he would always be protected with you.
For now though, all he wanted was to stay like this. You holding him, your hands entwined as he learned every single inch of you. He would bare his soul, just to get a glimpse of yours.
“I’ll let Lo’ak know I’m ok. But I would much rather be out here. With you”
God. Look at her
Your cheeks seemed to flush at his words, eyes shining as you let out a half-giggle, half-snort. Head tilted as you stared him down, humming to yourself as your hand that wasn’t holding his began to trace circles along his chest.
“Oh? And why would you want that. The people would talk you know”
Neteyam slowly sits up, a small part of him wishing to stay in her lap, he turns towards her. He wraps his hand back around hers and slowly pulls her forwards, only inches of space between them.
His free hand coming up, pausing to stop if you so wished. But when you don’t he moves forwards, finger brushing her hair from her face and curling it behind her ear. Her eyes are wide as she looks at up, iliac blush even more noticeable than before.
“They can talk all they want. None of their opinions matter the way yours do”
I’m making you mine.
The thought comes to you rather suddenly. But it’s not unwelcome. You know nobody would understand this connection you feel for Neteyam, wouldn’t understand how quickly you could ever fall so deeply for someone within a matter of days.
Even now, you’re still pinching yourself in trying to understand these feelings. But you can’t let this slip through your fingers not after everything you’d been through. Being taken away from your clan, forced to grow up in those walls of metal under the hands of people who hated you.
Your identity, your clan, your own sister taken away from you. And then you had been reborn into a world that was unfamiliar yet achingly said that it was your home.
Whatever this love you had for this boy before you. You weren’t going to be afraid, not about to let it slip through your fingers. Not when Neteyam made you feel like you were normal. No expectations, he didn’t see you as anyone else but you.
“Are we crazy?”
Neteyam doesn’t need to know what you mean by that. And he has no response but to laugh, moving to sit on his knees, hands coming to cup your face in his hands. His thumb coming to brush over the mark of the Sarentu before focusing back on you, golden eyes meeting your own enthralling ones.
“Maybe. Yes? But I don’t care. All I know is that this tightness in my chest that I’ve had my entire life has never gone away not matter what. The balm of my family softened it, but it stuck to me like some disease. I did everything to stop it from consuming me and nothing, nobody, could ever change the way I was feeling”
The words come out in reverence, tail whipping and ears flickering, unable to contain the emotions he feels.
“And then I saw you. And that feeling in my chest” one of his hands leaving your face to clutch at his own chest, over his heart.
“It disappeared. And I felt like I could finally breathe for the first time. And it was because of you”
You gasp when his head falls against your own, foreheads pressed together. You can’t help but close your eyes, body shaking in adrenaline. As though you had just fought an entire RDA base alone, your hands shaking as they crawl from the ground up his arms and clutching his shoulders.
“So maybe we are crazy. But I know I know that I’m not alone in this madness, that I have you right next to me. This madness doesn’t need to make sense to anyone else but you”
You let out a watery laugh, finally opening your eyes to be faced with his own watery ones.
“Ok”
You have more to say to Neteyam, more than just one short answer. Words enough to fill books upon books. But for now this is all that is needed to be said. One concise answer, for him to understand that you understand him completely. That they are on the side page.
“Ok”
The watery smile that he gives you in return says enough.
“So why the hell are we here” Jake glares at the man who now stands before them, no longer speaking over the microphone. He stands with an air of arrogance, reminiscent of Selfridge. It’s enough for Jake to understand already what type of person he is.
“Not one for listening are you Sully” Mercer rolls his eyes before taking a seat.
“You are my bargaining chips. You see after that whole incident with Quaritch went down I had my people keep track of you. I needed some leverage against Ardmore so decided to keep you in my hold”
Mercer sighs, a sadistic grin slowly growing on his face.
“But then. I heard that your little family found their way in the hands of some very important people to me. So I’m keeping you under wraps until we make our way back to the Western Frontiers”
Jake brows furrow, trying to piece this all together, pushing through the rage that fills him.
The idea of yet again being nothing more than a bargaining chip, of his family being the one to suffer at the hands of humans just so they could get what they want.
“My plan is simple. The Sarentu are a sentimental bunch, I know they’ll come…somewhat willingly, especially if I threaten your lives. And well”
Mercer stands, staring at Neytiri with a chilling smirk.
“I’ll take little Tuktirey and shoot her as a message. I’m sure you children would be more than happy to give up my Na’vi in exchange for you”
Jake watches as his mate throws herself against the chains, doing all she can to try and get at Mercer. The man only staring down at her like she was nothing.
“Control your bitch before I do it for you” Mercer growls at Jake who hisses back him, fangs bared as he tries to jump at the man. Unable to with how his chains keep him back.
“Keep fighting. It’ll be much sweeter when your broken and begging”
Jake watches as he walks away, eyes narrowed on the unfamiliar songcord around his wrist, before looking back to Neytiri, his mate in a similar state of anger.
She melts however when he turns back to him, ears pushed back and lips quivering.
“The children Jake. He know’s where the children are”
Jake crawls, as much as he restraints allow him, only inches apart from his wife.
“It’s ok baby. We’ll get them back, they’re strong. Strong heart just like you”
She inhales, holding back the sob that creeps at the back of her throat. Closing her eyes for a second.
“And you Ma’jake, strong heart just like you. I trust in you. And in them”
He nods, slowly crawling back until he rests against the cold metal walls. Closing his eyes as he thinks to his kids, of this ‘Sarentu clan’ Mercer spoke of.
It didn’t matter. They were alive. His kids had made it out, untouched and unharmed. And that was all the motivation he needed to keep alive, to keep fighting to get them back.
Soon. I’ll find you. Sully’s stick together.
𝑬𝑵𝑫 𝑵𝑶𝑻𝑬𝑺 | RAHHHH i love writing for these two, so adorable. Yearning Neteyam x yearning yn. All that and still no kiss? Crazy work…. 🙂↕️ def expect them to be extra mushy, flirting and disgusting in the upcoming chapters. I’m also trying to figure out a way to close this. I mean i know how this will end, just figuring the plot between now and the last chapter. Again this was never supposed to be this long, i was ideally gonna finish it next chapter…but i do love writing this series. Def only going to be 10 parts. Maybe less if i do finish it earlier than expected but we shall see where it goes. Anyway i hope you enjoyed this chapter, much, much love and agin tysm for the support, I’m glad everyone is enjoying this 🤍 TAGLIST 🖤 \ @herdarlin @viliwill @xoxogospgirl @ratchetprime211 @satata @siderealpisces @midnitelilac @ezminiqqqqq @artfulthoughtsblog @hanatsuki-hime @dustbummy @littletinydreams @itsme-98 @theycallmemaniac @nicaur @saltedcoffeescotch @pipsquakforvaldez @idontcarewahthappenstome @justhornylol @emilymikado
