Old Dorango screencaps I still had around
Old drawing of Lala and the 1998 SK Japan Devilman plush…
Just read the first volume of chainsaw man that my boss’s fiancé lent me… once again I’m reminded that everything in modern manga/anime is just Devilman (1972) with a new coat of paint.
What are your thoughts on the animated adaptations of Devilman? (ie: OVAs, Devil Lady, Crybaby, etc)
You’ve opened Pandora’s box. Each has their strengths… some more than others… Crybaby has a rlly strong story- I think it’s weakness is the fact it was made in 2018 so the styling of the characters is def my least favorite visually. Ryo is really cold/ detatched in crybaby and I think I prefer his characterization in the manga/ OVA. Crybaby is also the strongest when it comes to the soundtrack. Akira is characterized pretty well in most variations!! Although out of the two he’s definitely easier to do right so I’m not rlly gonna complain too much abt it. 2001 Apocalypse is my favorite ❤️ the exploration of Amon made it a great watch and I love how they styled Ryo and Akira, and it’s pretty brutal when it comes to animation too. The ova is a good adaptation for the manga though- since they stayed pretty true to it. I don’t think there’s a version of Devilman I rlly ‘dislike’.
I feel like devil lady is fun- I’ve never finished it so I don’t think I have a say on it. I rlly love the designs and the early episodes I did watch weren’t bad. Same with cyborg 009 and Devilman 1972. I do own a handful of figures from the 1972/OVA version though. Chara Go Nagai is silly and I like it too.
akira fudō from devilman ( 1972 ) is butch, and ryō asuka is his intersex femme !
request from @ridibulous — " i have a bajillion headcanons of my own but i'm intentionally leaving the actual post u make open for others' interpretation. except the intersex part ryō is just canonically intersex... as satan technically and it's a fu-slur stereotype but fuck you he's mine to call intersex and me and my boyfriend are literally them irl anyway. who's who depends on the day though and he's perisex so 🤷♂️🤷♂️🤷♂️ "
I found my first Devilman artwork yesterday and tbh i still like it a lot
