“ The Devil's Violinist “
The Vampire Diaries / The Devil's Violinist / Damon Salvatore / Ian Joseph Somerhalder / Photomanipulation
26th February 1770, death of Venetian Baroque composer and violinist Giuseppe Tartini, best known for his "Devil's Trill Sonata". Tartini himself stated that the work arose from a dream he had in 1713, when the Devil had appeared to him, and played Tartini’s violin with such great skill and ferocity that the composer was left breathless. The performance was ‘so wonderful and so beautiful, played with such great art and intelligence, as I had never even conceived in my boldest flights of fantasy. I felt enraptured, transported, enchanted: my breath failed me, and I awoke’. Upon awakening Tartini tried to capture the performance the Devil had played to him, but claimed it was "so inferior to what I had heard, that if I could have subsisted on other means, I would have broken my violin and abandoned music forever." In honour of the anniversary of the death of Giuseppe Tartini, I am offering this limited edition print, of Tartini’s dream. If you would like this print, then DM me, $18 for 5x7, and $20 for 8.5 x 11. Both are printed on watercolour paper, and shipping is free in the domestic US. Do you think any of the vampire's have accents? Like Lestat and Gabrielle with a French one or Armand with an Italian or French one?
I have a little treat for you first, the voice of Nicolas! Well, kinda sorta.
[X ^ This is model Tomek Szczukiecki who looks hella more mysterious w/ his face cropped like dis]
@devilsviolinist had posted this audio clip of Nicolas’ normal/contented voice, and @colourful-jack informed us that it is in fact ballet dancer Jonathan Klein [audio from this vid here]. While Klein does not look at all like Nicolas, listen to the audio clip, the voice is great!
I have to consider the others some more but I didn’t want to make you wait any longer for at least some reply ;]
Headcanon: Reading about Parisian horror theatres pre-WW, I noticed a lot of them worked by trap doors, some lost for years. It's entirely possible Armand planted the idea of a glorious bonfire, having set it up with the cover of it as a set, and Nicolas decided to use the trapdoor to disappear. Fire is the way Lestat was abandoned by Magnus so he wouldn't question the finality and tricking the others would be easy. If Armand did find him later, he could smuggle him out with some manipulation.
[Tom Hiddleston quotes Josephine Hart, gifs from here X]
Well yeah, there have been trapdoors in theatres for ages. A trapdoor wasn’t necessary for this since Lestat got the info of Nicolas’ death from a letter. If you mean that even Eleni was fooled, then, yes, that’s possible. But I think Eleni was close to Nicolas and would be in on the scheme.
So who knows, maybe Eleni wrote the letter at Nicolas’ request, or Armand’s request… maybe Nicolas himself asked her to do it. We don’t know his reasons for suicide just as we don’t know why he’d fake his death. If he faked his death, we can probably assume he didn’t want Lestat to know he was alive or try to search for him, EVER. Eleni and Armand are both still in canon as far as Prince Lestat, so only they can answer these questions.
@devilsviolinist wrote a good post on Nicki survival theories here. Check it out.
Did AR intend that death to have been faked or real? We have unreliable narrators *shrug* She hasn’t made any hints as to Nicolas resurfacing in the next book, but at this point IT WOULDN’T SURPRISE ME. In fact, I would love for us to have our very own Civil War >:D
Which of the members of the coven do you worry about the most?
I worry about both Lestat and Nicolas.
devilsviolinist liked your post“To be honest, the veteran groupie in me is disappointed that Lestat...”
You'd know a lot about that, wouldn't you?
