Did you know Sweet Thursday is the sequel to Cannery Row? I read both of them last month, and I gave them 5 stars on Goodreads. =D

Devout Coffee in Fremont, California
Devout Coffee, 37323 Niles Blvd, Fremont, CA 94536, Score: 39/50
Devout Coffee was the first coffee roaster in Fremont that I knew of and they’re actually pretty good. I believe the original location was in Niles which opened in 2013. Unlike their newer location, they do not have a kitchen and do not offer toasts.
Score: 39/50
Food: 4/5 – They do have more pastries than the Fremont Blvd. location. Pastries include muffins, cookies, Danish, croissants, pretzels, cinnamon rolls, banana bread, etc. I thought the coffee muffin was too sweet and didn’t have enough coffee flavor.
Coffee: 5/5 – For drinks, they have espresso drinks, cold brew, pour over coffee, tea, and hot chocolate. I’ve been pleased with the cappuccinos. They’re well-balanced and not too bitter, sour, weak. They always include foam art.
Wi-fi: 5/5 – Free, unlimited, ask for the password. The connection seemed fine.
Ambiance: 4/5 – In a historic part of town, in an older building, wood floors, white tiles on the wall, larger outdoor patios
Noise: 5/5 – Quiet patio, calming music
Plugs: 0/5 – Didn’t see any
Parking: 5/5 – Pretty easy, with some public parking lots
Comfort: 3/5 – Stools, unpadded chairs. The patio can get windy. Didn’t see any heat lamps.
Bathroom: 5/5 – Two available
Art: 3/5 – None
Tips: Order at the counter. They’ll call your name when your drink is ready. They sell coffee beans and accessories.
“Laptop Campers Unite!”
Renegade by Devout Coffee, 37324 Fremont Blvd, Fremont, CA 94536
Renegade just took over the Slapface Coffee space. It’s an interesting two-story building that used to be a bank. People in this area seem to really be looking for a place to camp. The place was packed even though they don’t have wi-fi and parking is a challenge. But the seating design also reduces the number of available spaces.
They have pastries (croissants, muffins, cinnamon roll, cookies) and a few made to order food options: toast, pastrami sandwich. For drinks, they have espresso drinks, cold brew, pour over coffee, tea, and hot chocolate. They roast their own coffee beans.
Order at the counter and get a number. They’ll bring your food to you.
Crunchy avocado toast ($10): Small but thick piece of toast, lightly toasted, with avocado mash, salsa seca (seemed like a combo of chili crisp, nuts, seeds), cilantro, and lemon. Looks like they made the salsa seca themselves. The bread was high quality and they were generous with the toppings. The salsa seca is good but too salty.
Cappuccino ($5): nice foam art, good balance of milk foam and espresso, well made
I was pleasantly surprised by the upscale vibes. I like how you can hang out upstairs. They have smaller tables upstairs. The color scheme is black with natural wood accents. The seats are not padded.
However, the music is crazy loud and there are too many lights (very bright inside). I came early and could not find a space in the parking lot. There’s two hour street parking across the street and a parking lot that charges a $3 flat rate.
It might be tough to find a seat if you come after 10 AM. They close early too (2 PM).
The food is cooked in a trailer in the parking lot.

Coffee muffin ($4): small and moist, with a crackled sugar top. It was decent but too sweet. There wasn’t enough coffee flavor either.
It’s in an older building with limited indoor seating but a large covered outdoor setting.

Day 23: Coffee roasters
Day 23: Coffee roasters
31 Days of Gratitude Join me as I celebrate all I have to be thankful for during the month of October. Why October instead of November? One more day! Enjoy and be blessed.
I am so blessed to know people who roast and sell their own coffee. For years I thought I liked French Roast or super dark coffee because my husband liked it and there wasn’t a Starbucks yet. The most I knew about coffee was…
