I made a post about this on bsky but I thought maybe peeps here might also be interested (I'm mostly going to repost it word for word) about the real world architecture possible inspirations for Merchant's Tale:
I wonder if for this part of the Merchant's Tale, the devs took inspo from the Ishtar Gate that was part of the inner city of Babylon (modern day Iraq). Although the shades of blue are different. If you're going to EU fanfest you can see a reconstruction at the Pergamon Museum (which I reccomend visiting if you are a museum enjoyer)
Additionally I wonder if for Pari's palace they took inspo either from the Sultanahmet Camii (Present day Turkey, although that one is called Blue for the murals not the outside) or the Göy Məscid (known as the Blue Mosque of Tabriz) or Sheikh Lotfollah Mosque (present day Iran)
The influence of Islamic architecture is of course impossible to overlook, even if the devs didn't look to any of these places as a one to one inspiration, that vibrant blue is such a striking signature of the craft. I just wish they paid the same attention to the outfits they put in the game lmao. I grew up on the border between Mediterranean and Middle East and I was fortunate enough to have parents who wanted to show me the beauty of our neighbouring cultures. I've always found islamic architecture fascinating and beautiful growing up so to see something inspired by it in this game made me very happy, although i'd be lying if I didn't say I have mixed feelings about it especially considering so many Iranian people have been suffering because of the US/Israel and the complicity of world leaders.
I'm also by no means an expert on Islamic art/architecture so if there are any other examples you think may have been inspiration for the Merchant's Tale let me know!
