Random sketches/doodles of three of my Mii OCs to help me get back into drawing after being away from it for so long (cause of school)! I tried to be a bit freer with the anatomy and stuff and use more chibi-like forms because I also want to experiment with my style a little more. Drawing with the chibi forms before translating that to a larger scale body form helps me get more fluidity.

One of my favorite YouTubers is The Librarian. If you don’t know about him, he does long-form creepy and comfy content! He plays lots of horror games, does creepy readings, urban exploration, Minecraft horror mods, and probably more that I can’t think of off the top of my head. My favorite videos of his are his Minecraft From the Fog series. It just felt so cozy and homely with enough horror to keep you on your toes, and I’ve rewatched the final episode of the series multiple times because it’s so good. It’s fascinating to see what people can do with a horror mod when it’s tailored to one person’s playthrough!

Anyway, throughout the ~1-2 years I’ve been watching him, it became impossible to not notice his Voices of the Void series. But I never wanted to watch it because I didn’t understand what the game was. Well, that changed earlier this week when I finally decided that I would click on one of the newer videos to watch it.

It was certainly a lot to get into because I jumped right in the middle of what had been a very long series at that point, but I’ve really been enjoying what I’m seeing. I see why he plays it so much now. Voices of the Void is still a pretty strange game, but I really love how much there is do to and the base decoration aspect is so cool. If you don’t know what it is, the basics is that you’re alone in an alien sighting research facility, and your job is to watch out for anomalous creatures and send the info of them off to some other researchers. In the meantime, your job is also to take care of yourself and garden, maintain the base, and of course make it your own by decorating it. All the while, there’s the constant threat of aliens coming to get you, so it’s just dangerous enough that it makes it all the better when winter comes and you can lock down the base.

Anyway, all of this to say is that it really hit home for me and now it made me even more excited for some work on my story. There are two characters in it that I haven’t gotten to yet, but they’re one of the established couples right off the bat and are a pair that me and my girlfriend own one half of. My character is Mac and hers is Nell, and together they keep watch over an arctic base and collect research in a similar way. Well it’s Mac doing the work, but Nell is there for crucial emotional support.

They’re one of my favorites not just because I love them together and individually, but because it’s so cozy to imagine being locked down in a base like that, knowing that you’re away and hunkered down, safe from the dangers of the outside… and with a cute girl in your lap! Like it just sounds so heavenly. Now if only I could replicate this scenario with my own wife.
