Dick Nolan was born on February 4th, 1939 in Corner Brook. His album Fisherman’s Boy, released in 1972, included the song Aunt Martha’s Sheep (written by Ellis Coles). The track went on to become one of his signature songs. In his career he enjoyed Canadian chart success and even had a tv show. He was the first Newfoundlander to be nominated for a Juno Award, and the first Newfoundlander to play the Grand Ole Opry.
