Song: “If I Ever Get A Job Again” (1932) Composers: Sam M. Lewis & Abel Baer I had long wondered what was Fatty Arbuckles’ association with this song had been, as his picture appears on the commercial sheet music. This song was actually a depression-era ditty, but Arbuckles’ performance of it may have in fact been an ironic one. The comic worked behind the camera under a variety of pseudonyms over the years following his decline in popularity. I now have it on good authority that Roscoe "Fatty" Arbuckle did perform this number onstage in an act that he was touring with in 1932!

It seems 1932 was a "comeback" year for the comic as he returned to making two-reel short comedies for Warner Brothers. He died in his sleep of a heart attack in 1933 at age 46, reportedly on the same day he signed a contract with Warner Brothers to make a feature film. In light of that, The song packs an even heavier ironic punch....

We don't have a recording of Roscoe performing it, but here is a version recorded by Dick Robertson (with a studio orchestra) in January of 1933.
