Die Liebe (1985)
Du sprachst mit deinem Verstand und ich hörte mit dem Herzen zu. Kein Wunder, dass mein Herz jedes Mal blutet wenn du sprichst.

11, 19, 21, 28 for the OTP ask meme, CorNyx of course
11. Do either try to hide their emotions if upset? Can the other still tell?
Very much so, especially at first. They're both so used to being the one other people look to, to keeping it together on the surface in order to keep themselves from cracking open, that it's hard to let go of that. Anger is easier to admit, especially about outside things like the war, bureaucracy, and eventually even about the way they themselves are treated.
Hurt takes a little longer, which trips them up at the beginning when they won't admit it to each other. They're both so used to not acknowledging it, after all. What starts off the sharing is, somewhat ironically, when the other gets angry on their behalf. Cor sees Nyx worn down, and then attacked and can't help but help. Perhaps he sees someone make a comment about Galahdans only knowing how to run away, hiding behind Mother Insomnia's skirts and leaving their mothers behind. Cor just stares the person down and starts ripping into their argument and their personal choices and motions Nyx to retreat. Nyx actually gets angry at first but takes the out. When they talk later, he yells at Cor that he's been dealing with it for years; he's immune. Cor is quiet for a while and then says "You could survive someone trying to bite your leg off," (a reference to a recent hospitalizing injury Nyx got fighting a daemon), "but that doesn't mean I wouldn't kill the daemon before it got there if I could. Or kill the one on your left leg while you stab the one on your right. They were hurting you." Later that night, after letting off some steam pounding dough in the kitchen and crawling in bed, Nyx will thank him. The next time it happens, he might even admit it did hurt. The reverse takes a while, because Cor's hurts are more subtle, but Nyx has always been a defender as well. Even when it is him doing the (unintentional) harm.
Once they are more settled in the relationship, they do get better at reading each other for the expressions and habits that indicate hurt. They can't always fight the causes, but they can offer comfort and companionship. When they do open up about hurts (both still try to deal with them on their own first, but if that's not enough, they are getting better about reaching out), Nyx will talk about it while they are touching and not looking each other in the eye -- either sitting side by side with hands intertwined, or leaning his head on Cor's lap, or just being held from behind -- and always with his hands either holding Cor's or his own. When Cor does it, he either confesses while working on something else with his hands -- cooking, whittling, repairing his car -- also not making eye contact, or sprawled out on top of Nyx in bed, head tucked under Nyx's chin.
Okay, this is clearly gonna be a long one. Continued under the cut.
Die Liebe - Till Lindemann
Die Liebe
Warte warte hab dich gerne
Schenk dir Herz und Gold und Sterne
Ein Feuer hinter Rippen brennt
Das man in Einfalt Liebe nennt
Falte deine Seel zusammen
Leg es an das lohe Glück
Steht das Ganze bald in Flammen
Häufchen Asche bleibt zurück
— Till Lindemann, 100 Gedichte
Du bist all das was ich mir in jeder Sternschnuppennacht gewünscht hab.
