Through his tinted lenses, Zeno could see perfectly. He watched, waiting while the man splattered and compared him to the picture of the target he was looking for.

A perfect facial match. Luck was on his side today it seemed.

"That would be because I'm not with the BSAA." He replied smoothly in a low tone. "They don't like it when people try to leave."

"I can help you. If that's what you want." The corner of his mouth curves ever so slightly.

The Duke holds his hand out, the tan lines on his fat fingers now extremely evident with all of his rings removed. Ethan passes him the bottle and he hums a tune to himself, something old-sounding, squeezing some into his hand to wash his hair.

"I normally make a point of keeping conversations to office hours-" The Duke pauses to splash water over his face and run his hands through his hair. "But something tells me you have pressing matters to attend to."

The water trickles to a stop and eventually the cold comes back in. The Duke gets up just long enough to turn himself towards Ethan and sit back down. He grabs a towel and starts to dry off.

"And I've begun to think of us as friends by now, haven't you?"

The eldest Dimitrescu daughter tilted her head slightly, her posture remained perfectly composed and her expression calm. "Have you never seen a tattoo before, man-thing?" Bela replied, there was no irritation in her voice, only mild curiosity combined with slight amusement. "No, I did not draw it. This mark was given to me by Mother Miranda. It's a symbol of...rebirth." The blonde paused briefly, she was thoughtful rather than offended. "Your curiosity interests me… what was it you hoped to learn by asking?"

Zeno was used to being told what to do. He didn’t know what to think going forward.

“…..I lived my whole life around Progenitor viruses. I know what they do. I don’t know how to live with mold.”

For all the denial that his duties would become glorified babysitting, they certainly were skirting the line. As he stares at the reflection of the bright synthetic lights reflecting across the surface of the water, he has to wonder just how many strings are being pulled just to keep this space maintained.

Why Ethan paddles over and insists on bothering him rather than enjoying a whole pool is beyond him. Though he shoots the man a warning look when he catches him eyeing one of his bare feet for a second.

"Don't even think about it. I might not be armed, but I can still outswim you, Winters." The aggravation in his voice seems almost weakened by the distracting noise of the water spashing up over the ledge. He scoots back a little. Reluctant to allow any part of his body to touch the water.

He is overdressed for someone poolside. Every few minutes, he tugs at the long sleeves of the wetsuit-style shirt covering the top half of his body and turns his palms downwards, refusing to look at the blackish marks creeping across the exposed skin.

"You know Chris? I heard he punches boulders. Is that- he wouldn't try that, right?" - @diedindulvey

"Yeah, he did."

Piers doesn't look up from his meal. Ethan's disbelief and awe remind him, just a little bit, of Finn Macauley. He has no doubt that comparison would likely irk Ethan if he knew of the man, but that's just the way he sees things.

"Crazy things happen when you're the guy who stands up to god-wannabe maniacs. You should hear about what his partner Alomar did." @diedindulvey

Stay out of the way. Don’t try to help.

No– no, that wasn’t how Chris operated. The request was multifaceted in its pitiful attempt at displacement, a removal of his presence in some form; there wasn’t much that Chris could ignore when it came to Ethan. Regardless of how obscure or drastic the issue may be, the phrasing immediately put Chris’s mind into a red alert– though the tinted haze could have been a low grate of irritation that painted itself within his expression.

“Excuse me? No– that’s not something you tell me. You say shit like that, and I, by obligation, need to involve myself.” His tone hadn’t been anything short of curt, pointed. Not to mention that the sudden version of abrasiveness was more unnerving than it it had any right being. “Spell it out, what’s going on? And don’t make this any harder than it needs to be.”

The Duke lightly strokes Ethan's arm, from the elbow down to the wrist, with the tip of his finger. He makes a note of how relatively smooth the skin is- Ethan is a man who isn't used to physical labour, to working outside. He and the Duke very much have that in common.

"Nothing fatal." Said with a sly glint to reassure Ethan it's all in good fun- at least, to the Duke, anyway. He holds his cigar up towards Ethan, the cherry still sizzling.

"I want to see what kind of mark this leaves," he says. With quick dexterity, he presses the end of the cigar to Ethan's flesh. "Don't be afraid to scream. In fact, that might make it more fun."
