hi ❤️ my friend group and i rlly love your writing ! they volunteered me to send this request haha
maybe a fic with sparrow!ben where the umbrella academy are there and the reader is usually quite shy but shes warmed up to diego and is friendly with him but ben is jealous and overprotective??
thank youuuu we love yoo ❤️
a/n: you guys are so sweet omg sorry this took a while but I hope you enjoy ! also I wasn’t sure if Diego’s relationship with the reader should be platonic or romantic so I left it up to your interpretation :)
warnings: subtle angst, sparrow!ben is kind of a jerk, fluff if you squint, blurb piece, a most likely inaccurate description of knife throwing
summary: Ben isn’t too fond of your new friend and has no problem showing it
The metal knife feels foreign in your palm, light and smooth and dangerous, but you like the feeling— when was the last time you’d ever been allowed to wield something so elegantly deadly without a certain Sparrow breathing down your neck? You loved Ben, and you adored his fierce need to protect you with every fiber of his being, but you also just wanted some space to prove that you could handle your own without your boyfriend immediately coming to the rescue. And that’s where Diego comes in.
“Think you can handle it?” He asks with a playful quirk of his lips.
“I guess we’ll just have to see,” you quip back before relaxing your shoulders and allowing your eyes to flutter shut in time with a concentrated inhale. When they open again you find yourself stepping forward and throwing the knife with a precise flick of your wrist, a subtle grunt of effort leaving your lips as the blade lodges itself into the wood of an old oak tree. The sound of impact reverberates through the empty courtyard and sends tingles down your spine, a rush of adrenaline coursing through your veins as you turn to Diego with wide eyes and a disbelieving smile on your face.
“Fast learner,” he compliments with a wink, “you’re better than I thought.”
“Can I try again?” You eagerly asks, and as much as he’d love to show you all the tricks and tips he could think of, Diego could no longer ignore the pair of eyes staring daggers at him from across the way.
“Maybe some other time. Pretty boy over there looks like he’s about to have a heart attack.”
The chuckle that leaves the man is devoid of all humor; he figures making jokes will lessen the pain that comes with being around this new version of Ben, but nothing he does seems to dull the ache of having a brother who not only has no idea who he is, but also seems to hate him with every fiber of his being— all because he’d gotten a little too friendly with the shy Sparrow.
“I better go check on him,” you say with a resigned sigh. “He’s still getting used to you guys being here.”
“No, I get it. I think we’re all on the same page there.”
“Thank you, Diego,” you utter with a faint smile, giving his arm a comforting squeeze before sauntering off to greet your pouty boyfriend.
“I don’t trust him,” is the phrase Ben uses to acknowledge your presence. His eyes never leave Diego, and you both watch as the man removes your knife from the trunk with ease.
“Well, he is kind of your brother, so I don’t think he has any ill will towards you.”
“I don’t care what those freaks say, they’re not my family,” he says coldly.
“Ben...”
“And they’re not yours either, so don’t get too comfortable having them around.”
You want to be upset with him, you want to argue that he’s being unnecessarily cruel, but you know that you could never understand the complications that come with a such a unique situation. A group of strangers showing up out of nowhere claiming to know you, to have loved you and mourned you? You can’t even begin to imagine what Ben must be feeling about having the Umbrella Academy around— not that he’d ever tell you what he was feeling. Despite being his girlfriend, even you had a hard time getting him to open up.
“I just think you should give them a chance is all,” you murmur gently, your tone prompting the Sparrow to soften just the tiniest bit.
“Come on,” he says with a sigh, pressing a quick kiss to the crown of your head and effectively changing the subject, “it’s cold out here, I don’t want you getting sick.”
You won’t make him say it, but you know he’s sorry for his sour mood. You’re all he cares about, and keeping you safe is his own personal mission in life, though he can be a bit overbearing with his execution. But you love him all the same.
Diego Hargreeves being touch starved would include.
A/N: I started writing this when the s2 came out, and then I never finished. But here we are! Feel free to like, reblog and comment!
Diego has all the intimacy problems that you could imagine
i’m talking touch starved, scared of commitment, night terrors, etc
so when you two start to hang out he’s a mess
he doesn’t know if he can trust you, but he wants it so bad
hugs make him blush, holding hands make him blush, kisses on the cheek make him blush
the sex part is fine with him, since he’s used to having meaningless hookups since he was a teen
but when the softness comes, he’s a mess
the longing gazes make him tremble, the soft caresses turn him into a wreck and if you pay him a compliment, he’ll probably start to stutter
your hugs make him fall apart, and it’s the one thing that can change his day
he melts when you play with his hair, and even if he tries to look mad because you put ponytails on him (again) he can’t. he just asks you to keep playing with it
the small kisses given throught the day and any other physical form of affection make him fall in love even more than before
please touch him softly, he’s a teddy bear
forehead kisses are his favorite thing, because he feels taken care of like he hasn’t been since...
Imagine finally finding the Umbrella Academy in 1963 after some trial and error...
As the family discussed what to do with the letters received from their father - with much argument - the door to the apartment burst open, and you barrelled in. The Hargreeve’s were alarmed with the intrusion at first but then visibly calmed down when they recognised you.
You counted the persons in the room, matching them to their numbers and threw your arms in the air with closed fists - triumphant.
“Yes!” You exclaimed. “I love you ‘equation thirty-seven’!”
“(Y/n)?” Luther frowned as he stood up. He walked around the couch and stared in utter surprise that you were standing before them when you should have been dead from the first apocalypse.
Returning to face the familiar family, you grinned and hurried deeper into this strange living room.
“Look at you all.” You gushed, opening your arms wide and taking in a deep breath. “All my favourite dumbasses in one room and about to break the world again - it’s like nothing changed.”
Klaus pushed himself off the soft pillows and made his way over to engulf you in a warm hug.
“Aww, you still deliver shitty news with a smile. Hey, Five - take note.”
Number Five rolled his eyes at the jab. Now was not the time for trivial arguments. He needed a way to stop the Doomsday and your sudden appearance may hold an answer.
summary: oh, to be seven years old again, playing with you in the weeds.
warning: contains minor season two spoilers
author's note: hello everyone! it's been a while, hey. this fic was inspired by Taylor Swift's 'seven', hope you enjoy :)
Please picture me in the trees, I hit my peak at seven feet
In the swing, over the creek, I was too scared to jump in
But I was high in the sky, with Pennsylvania under me
Are there still beautiful things?
Diego didn’t have many happy childhood memories.
He had Grace, beautiful Grace, always there, always a comfort. He had Ben, always there with the science to carry out his wild ideas. Reprogramming Allison’s Teddy Ruxpin was only the beginning of their adventures. And you, best of all. He had you.
Even now, decades and miles away from home, he thinks of you. The only thing mental asylums were good for, thinking and dreaming. He closes his eyes to push past the barriers of distance and time, to wrap his mind around the memory of you. Seven-year-old you, your twin braids and big smile with missing teeth.
Sweet tea in the summer, cross your heart, won't tell no other
And though I can't recall your face, I still got love for you
Your braids like a pattern, love you to the moon and to Saturn
Passed down like folk songs, the love lasts so long
The sound of your war cry comes to him at night (or day, he can’t tell,) chasing imaginary sea monsters with one hand over your eye and the other swinging a stick like a sword. The look on your face when you slipped in the mud, pretty pink skirt blackened with damp earth, and you brushing the dirt off your knees before running off again. The feel of your little hand in his, running away from Grace when she called you back to the Academy.
Your laugh, bubbling from your mouth like water from a bubbler. Your pants, clutching your side with your hands when you’d exhausted yourself from running and climbing and laughter. Was there anything more beautiful than you? Would there ever be another partner-in-crime, co-captain, best friend he could call his? Surely never. There could never be anyone to replace you, his everything. His past, the present, the future he dreamt of.
How all the more crushing it was when you were ripped from him, screaming and begging as your parents shoved you into that car and vanished.
And I've been meaning to tell you, I think your house is haunted
Your dad is always mad and that must be why
And I think you should come live with me and we can be pirates
Then you won’t have to cry or hide in the closet
And just like a folk song, our love will be passed on
He couldn’t hold onto you, hand gripping yours like a lifeline, sweat slipping between your fingers and sliding apart. Reginald’s hand on the back of his collar, ignoring his pleas, your parents trying to coax you away with the promise of new friends in your new town.
You were no fool, not even at seven. “It’s not gonna be the same, Mama.”
Yet still you wondered, “Why can’t he come with us?”
There was only one answer, Reginald’s only excuse: “Number Two needs to focus on his training. He no longer has time for your… frivolous games. He’s missed enough lessons as it is.”
But you, stubborn you, mustered all your courage and spat at his feet through your tears. Looked him right in the eye, and screamed, “His name is Diego, not Number Two!”
And that was it. The final straw. Diego found himself being yanked back, choking against his clothes. Dragged back into the Academy, door slamming shut behind him. The click of the lock audible even to you, and your father led you back to the car, your mother buckled your seatbelt. Foot to the accelerator and you vanished, sobbing and screaming for him in the backseat.
Your tears dried, eventually. His, too. And you both moved on, but never forgot.
Please picture me in the weeds, before I learned civility
I used to scream ferociously any time I wanted
He promised to never forget you, and he kept that promise. For a while, you were a photograph in his pocket that he could look at any time he wished, a mantra to help him survive the missions and training and competition. He clung to your memory, clung as hard as he could. But despite his best efforts, your picture faded over time, colours yellowing, blurry and faded.
You promised to never forget him, and you kept that promise. You could never forget the shy little boy, who stumbled over words but held your hand tight. Who matched your imagination with his own, devising new worlds and stories. That little boy, so desperate to please his father, so desperate to be the best.
Your memory led you to the Academy that day, fingers clinging to a sticky note and eyes staring up at the haunted building. It was because of him, because of your search for him that led you there that fateful day. The day everything changed. The day Five fell too far into the future and couldn’t go back.
Sweet tea in the summer, cross my heart, won't tell no other
And though I can't recall your face, I still got love for you
Diego will never forget the day Five returned, never forget the words that left his brother’s mouth. I found someone in the rubble, Diego. I think she was looking for you.
And he held out that slip of paper with your delicate handwriting, and Diego read your goodbye. I’m so sorry for leaving that day, Diego. I should’ve fought harder for you. Forgive me.
None of his siblings could console him, and he couldn’t reach you in time, couldn’t find you in any hotel and spare room.
You’d slipped through his fingers again, and he lost you for good.
Pack your dolls and a sweater, we’ll move to India forever

MASTERLIST REQUEST RULES
Diego enters the messy kitchen and wraps his arms around his girlfriend once he reaches the stove she is currently working on. He buries his face in her neck and kisses a trail from her free shoulder to her ear. Diego just woke up because he was up all night doing his vigilant job and saving lives. Of course, he is still sleepy.
“Come back to bed. We can order something tonight. My siblings wont care, I promise“, Diego tries to convince (Y/n) to stop cocking and baking. The man isn‘t even sure if their guests will actually come. It‘s not like he is important to the Hargreeves siblings.
“No, we can‘t. I want to make them to feel at home here, more at home than they ever felt at the academy. And I don‘t want them to hate me“, the female explains and starts to stir some kind of soup. (Y/n) turns her head so that she can place a kiss on Diegos pouting lips.
“No one could ever hate you, baby“, the man whispers in her ear when she turns back to the stove. With a grin on his lips Diego nibbles at her earlobe, making the female giggle.
Four hours later all the food is made and the kitchen is clean again. Diego walked back to bed after he realized that he wouldn‘t get his girlfriend out of the kitchen soon. His nap gets interrupted by (Y/n) trying to figure out what to wear.
Diego crawls over the bed to eye his half-naked girlfriend closer. He watches her get dressed and admires her gorgeous body with and without clothes.
“Stop staring, pervert“, (Y/n) giggles and throws a dark red shirt at her boyfriend, covering his whole face with the fabric. “Get dressed. Your siblings will be here soon“, she reminds him and sits down on the bed next to him. She starts to tousle his hair which got longer the last few months.
“Don‘t remind me of that“, Diego sighs and gets up to take a trouser from the cabinet. Slowly, he puts on his clothes. Purposely, he lets the shirt fall over his tights and then turns to his girlfriend. (Y/n) stood up while he buttoned his shirt up. With a grin she tucks the end of his dark red shirt into his trouser.
Hardly that her hands left his trouser, Diego wraps his arms around her waist and hoists her up so that her legs no longer touch the ground. He swirls her around and both laugh, filled with so much happiness at this moment.
“I think I need to throw up“, a young voice says and startles the couple. While Diego presses his girlfriend against his body, her feet still in the air, he pulls a knife and throws it at the interrupter. In the last second the knife curves past the face of a boy and bores itself into the wall. (Y/n) sighs.
“What happened to no knives during the family dinner?“, the female asks a bit annoyed and finally stands on her own after Diego set her down. He doesn‘t even mind his girlfriends words. His brown eyes are focused on his siblings.
“Five let us in“, Vanya explains. All of the Hargreeves siblings seem to be nervous and anxious too. The tension disappears the moment a cat enters the bedroom as if it‘s his own. Cariño cuddles his way through the legs of the visitors until he reaches Diego.
“Well then...let‘s go to the living room“, (Y/n) says as she picks up the cat and presses it against Diegos chest. She looks at him as if she would like to say: Your cat, your responsibility.
Soon, all of the Hargreeves siblings are sitting around the table in the living room. Cariño is currently sitting on Klaus‘ lap. He was already greeting Vanya and Five, the others will be cuddled later.
Diego sets the last bowl of food on the table, and they start to eat. At first, silence fills the room but then the siblings as well as Diegos girlfriend start to get each other better.
“When we were ten he hid every piece of my clothing in one night. I never found my favorite skirt thanks to him.“
“Don‘t forget the one time he murdered all of my plushies with his knives!“
“What about the time he stole dads monocle?“
Laughter fills the living room and the people in it feel more comfortable and at home. Even Diego laughs although his siblings make fun of him. Cariño is sitting on his lap while he holds hands with his girlfriend under the table. The soft touch helped him calm down at first, but now it‘s just feeling their shared love.
“I would have never taken you for a cat-person, Diego“, Allison says as the cat walks from lap to lap and finally cuddles against the female. It makes her lips form a smile.
“Well, I found him in an alley injured and scared. He probably was a stray“, Diego tells and watches his sister pet Cariño. Allison starts to caress the cats broken ear which makes him purr.
After a few more minuten in which everyone agrees on how cute Cariño is and that Diego got a softie, the man stands up and starts to clear up the table. (Y/n) wants to help him, but he shakes his head and places a hand on her cheek, kissing her forehead. Then he snaps his fingers and Luther, Klaus and Five help him.
“What did you do to our brother?“, Vanya asks. If there wouldn’t be a smile on her lips, Diegos girlfriend would have thought that she was mad at her.
“What do you mean?“, (Y/n) asks with a confused expression and watches Cariño jump from Allisons lap. He walks under the table and presses his head again and again against (Y/n)s legs.
“He is so...soft“, Allison explains and looks up startled when the men return.
The group decides that they should continue their conversation on the couch. The moment (Y/n) wants to stand up, Diego is already at her side and picks her up bridal style. Together with his love in his arms, the man walks to the armchair and sits down with her on his lap. Cariño follows them a little jealous.
The Hargreeves siblings watch their brother and his girlfriend cuddle in the armchair and happy smiles appear on their lips. They are happy that Diego is happy finally.

"We really should get up now" you said, looking at the clock in the nightstand. It was past two pm already, and both of you hadn't gotten up for anything at all.
"I see no need for that" Diego replied, arms squeezing even more tightly around your body and bringing you closer to his own. The feeling of his breathing on the skin of your neck made you chuckle. "We can stay here all day"
"Trust me, that's fine by me" you turned around in his arms and kissed him softly on the lips, the taste of him being as good as ever. You pulled just slightly away to continue talking. "But shouldn't we at least get something to eat?"
Diego sighted and rested his head on the pillows, closing his eyes again. "Just give me another hour and then we will, I promise"
You rolled your eyes, but deep down, you were happy you wouldn't have to leave his arms just yet. There... you felt safe and comfortable. Best place in the world to be.
Get Home Safe (AU Diego Hargreeves x female!reader)
Authors Note: Okay, so I was listening to Ribs by Lorde on repeat which made me feel a wave of nostalgia so I kind of projected my younger self into a fan fiction?? ANyWayS, rich-kid quarterback Diego and goody-two-shoes reader are seniors in high school. They run into one another at a party
Trigger Warnings: Alcohol, angst, feelings of sadness and being alone
“Oh God, please make the world stop spinning,” (Y/N) thought to herself. She struggled to keep her balance as she stumbled her way through the backyard, leaning against the wooden fence for support. After much effort, she made it past the crowd of teens cheering around the beer pong table to the side of the garage. With her weight collapsing into the building, the stucco wall scraping against her shoulder as she dragged herself forward. That’s when she came across an obstacle.
Diego was in her way, leaning against the wall as he entertained the small clique of girls surrounding him. Looking past their shoulders, he (Y/N), terribly drunk and stumbling over herself. He promptly excused himself and approached her. The group of girls turned around, and giggled at the sight of intoxicated (Y/N), before dispersing back into the party.
“Hey, (Y/N). Doing okay there?” Diego asked, stopping her in her tracks.
“Never better,” (Y/N) answered, words slurring.
“Where are you headed?”
“Home.”
“Okay, so how are you planning on getting there?”
“By walking.”
“Do you really think you’re in any shape to be doing that by yourself right now?”
“Of course.”
“Yeah? Can you walk straight for me then?” Diego smirked.
(Y/N) nodded and attempted to stand up without any support, toppling forward immediately. Diego caught her, his free hand firmly holding her shoulder.
“I think I should probably drive you home, (Y/N)” he said, a look on his face that was half worried and half amused.
“No, no, it’s okay. I don’t want to be a bother to you.”
“Don’t worry about it, I need an excuse to leave anyways.”
“Haven’t you been drinking, though?” (Y/N) questioned, sloppily gesturing to the red solo cup in his hand.
“It’s just water, don’t worry. Actually, here, have some,” he replied. (Y/N) took it and downed the entirety of its contents, before crushing the plastic cup and throwing it over her shoulder.
“(Y/N) is drunk-drunk,” Diego thought to himself. He leaned in and wove one hand under her arm and around her back, placing his hand on the sleeve of her white t-shirt. He grabbed her hand and wrapped it behind his head so they had their arms around one another’s shoulders.
“Let’s get going.”
The pair walked up the driveway.
“I’m parked a couple houses down,” Diego said, leading (Y/N) down the sidewalk.
“Amazing, I wish I drove.”
“(Y/N), you do drive.”
“Oh yeah, I forgot,” (Y/N) giggled.
Diego rolled his eyes. He took his keys from his pocket and pressed the unlock button. The headlights of a black Jeep flashed, followed by a beeping noise and the click of locks.
“Promise not to puke in my car?” Diego prompted, opening the door for (Y/N) and helping her in, making sure she buckled her seatbelt.
“I promise!” (Y/N) assured him.
Diego walked to the drivers side and got in. Music began playing as he turned on the car. He turned to face (Y/N).
“So, where do you live?” he asked.
“Uhhh, you go left then up then le- no, right, and then, uh..”
“Actually, just tell me your address,” he said, typing it into his phone as (Y/N) recited the number and street name.
“Beginning route, proceed straight,” a robotic voice coming from the speakers of his car instructed. He began driving.
“So, how much did you have to drink?”
“Only a little”
“How much is a little?”
“Like, half of one drink.”
“I doubt that.”
“I did! I only had one cup, and it was half lemonade half vodka!”
“Holy shit, (Y/N). That’s not half a drink! Do you even know how much one drink is?”
“Not really.”
“You probably had, like, six shots! Did you space it out, atleast?”
“No, it tasted bad so I just downed the whole thing, That way I would only have to taste it once.”
They hit a stop sign, and Diego looked over at the girl in disbelief.
“Don’t do that, (Y/N),” he said sternly, “please.”
The two drove in silence for a while. How Are You True by Cage The Elephant began to play over the speakers.
All your days spend counting numbers
'Til one day you'll find (day you'll find)
That life has passed you by
(Y/N) sang along softly. Suddenly a wave of sadness hit her. The reality of the situation became so clear to her. She was invited to her first high school party, a month before graduation, just because she was useful. She was always helping people in their classes, trying so hard to be nice, to be liked, to be noticed. Once she got there, she felt out of place. She didn’t know how to talk to anyone, so she downed a drink, trying to keep herself preoccupied- trying to distract herself from how lonely she felt, despite being surrounded by people.
Diego heard a quiver in her voice and looked over at (Y/N), noticing the tears streaming down her face.
“(Y/N)? Hey, hey, what’s wrong?”
(Y/N) kept looking forward, shaking her head.
“Nothing,” she said, coming out like a whisper.
Diego pulled over and parked the car.
“(Y/N), you’re crying..”
“No, I’m sorry, you were just trying to be nice to me and now I’m being a mess in your car and, I don’t know, I’m sorry.”
Diego sighed. “Listen, my brother… Well, he has this problem with alcohol. I know sometimes, when he’s had a little too much, he can get really sad. I get it. I mean, I get why he is the way he is, but… I don’t know, do you want to talk about it?”
“Diego, what do you think of me?”
“Well, I don’t really know you that well. But I do know you were my lab partner two years ago, you know, in biology. Pretty sure Ms. Smith paired me with you because I was almost failing and you’re, well, you’re you. And you helped me pass, but you never made me feel stupid for not knowing the answers to things.”
“I think that’s how everyone sees me.”
“What do you mean?”
“I think people only want me around because I can help them with things. I don’t think anyone actually likes me.”
“I think you’ve just had too much to drink.”
After a moment of deliberation, Diego spoke again, “In the locker room, well, we talk about girls and stuff. You came up once, when I had to get my grades up in order to be eligible to play. If I failed biology, I would have got kicked off the team, so Coach made me skip practice and go to tutoring. Anyways, half the football team thinks you’re cute. They say you’re quiet, but you’re always nice when they talk to you. And the other half doesn’t know who you are.”
“Really?”
“Yeah.. You always keep to yourself. But no one thinks anything bad about you, they just don’t know you.”
“I’m sorry, you already went out of your way to drive me home and now I’m just complaining about my life to you-”
Diego cut her off, “Hey,” taking one hand and tucking a lock of (Y/N)’s face behind her ear, “No one is forcing me to do this. I’m here because I wanted to see you get home okay.”
“Thank you,” (Y/N) smiled at him gratefully.
He smiled back and stroked his thumb across her cheek before returning his grip to the wheel.
“So here’s what we’re gonna do. I’m gonna take us to McDonalds and buy us some ice cream and fries, which is actually a beautiful combo, so you have something other than alcohol in your system, and then I’ll take you home. Sound okay?”
