have you ever had to deal with dissociation or switching while live and if so How do you deal with it?
sorry if thats too personal a question no worries if you dont want to/have an answer we’re just wondering
a bit personal but still an important question and we know how to talk around the bits that would be dangerous to state publicly. yes, we do experience dissociative episodes and switches quite frequently mid stream. the best thing you can do is be prepared.
we find for us personally, since we have dissociative memory barriers between alters, it's fairly important to prepare ahead of time. we used to keep a sticky note up at all times on our monitor but now, we usually just rely on a notepad document and keeping our streaming software (OBS) open on our second monitor at all times so that if someone switches in, we know instantly that we are streaming. that way, we don't say or do something that would be dangerous to do on stream.
dissociation is another story entirely. for us, our dissociative episodes tend to be more of the "being possessed by another alter and looking through your eyes like windows" kind. but we do get pretty severe episodes where we just feel like we are constantly in a fog no matter who is in control. in those moments, we try to make sure that we set a precedent with every alter ahead of time that if that happens, we are allowed to pivot to something easier or even stop stream entirely if needed. nobody is forced to do anything they aren't comfortable with. this is especially important if you have vulnerable alters such as littles.
of course, every system is different. so i implore you to ask some of the following questions in the context of how it impacts your streaming capabilities. not all of these will be applicable but i felt compelled to include as many possibilities as i could since like i've stated before, we definitely make streaming as a system look easier than it actually is:
what is the extent of memory that is shared between alters? is recent memory easily accessed after switching in? if not, how can you make sure that whoever switches in knows what's happening and what to do, or ensure that they can pivot if needed?
when you switch, is it slow or fast (or does it alternate between both)? if a switch happens quickly, how can you create an environment that instantly conveys that you are streaming without whoever was in front previously being present?
does every alter know the setup for streaming? the details of how it works? even if all alters are presumed to know, do you have a contingency for if someone doesn't (such as in cases of new splits or dormant alters)?
what do you want to convey to your audience about your plurality? do you want individual alters to be identifiable, or would you rather it not matter who is in front? if you do want to convey which alter is fronting for viewers, what methods would be easiest for your system (png tubers, onscreen text, different colored border patterns)?
how can you make this easiest for everyone? a big hurdle to streaming for a lot of people (even outside of OSDD/DID) is making streaming too cumbersome, so what can you do to make things smooth? can you set up bots to give your chat important information that you don't want to repeat? can you make hotkeys that easily toggle between scenes, and have additional games set up for capture if you need to pivot? some of this comes with experience, but what can you do to make it so that it's easy to (safely) go live in under 5 minutes?
what don't you want to say/do? think of the most vulnerable members of your system. holders, littles, infrequent fronters, maladapted parts, etc. what situation might streaming create that is dangerous for them to be in - whether it be an individual danger, a danger to themselves, or the system as a whole - and how can you prepare for that ahead of time?
how can you easily shut down stream if needed for any reason, and how can you make sure that option is always available? can you setup a way to disable mic, visuals, audio, and alerts within a matter of seconds? perhaps a scene or a hotkey? can you similarly shut down messages in chat and clear it's history? explore what options are available in your software and the service(s) you plan to stream on.
these are personal questions to ask for any systems reading this who want to get into streaming. do not talk about these specifics publicly, that can be incredibly dangerous. it's always safer to keep these things close to your chest so others can't use them against you unless you 1000% know what you are doing and have professional support. this really goes for anything related to mental health and especially vulnerable trauma disorders like OSDD/DID. if you have any doubt about talking about something in public, or anyone else in system does, don't say it.
the biggest thing i want to emphasize with all of this is to prepare ahead of time. that is the most important throughline of this post. it will help you to have fun, be entertaining, and STAY SAFE!!!!
For Any PC users Wanting To Get Around YouTube ID Verification/Advertisements WITHOUT Premium (Not an Ad)
Freetube.io is a client that allows you to access YouTube videos without YouTube's advertisements or content detection. There is an app downloadable onto your PC system itself, or add-ons for Firefox (ABANDON GOOGLE CHROME. IT IS DIRT.) There is also a website that functions in the same manner called Piped
For ANDROID mobile users, there is a FreeTube app (NOT found on the app store), however, I use Tubular, which is a fork off of NewPipe that includes a SponsorBlock feature to skip over sponsors in-video. (Piped and FreeTube also have this feature!)
For users of Amazon Firestick that may wish to use YouTube ad-free (and sponsor free) on their TV:
1. Go into settings > "My firestick" > "About"
2. Click "Fire TV stick" 7 times to enable Developer Settings
3. Go to the app store and aquire "Downloader"
4. Open Downloader, and type 250931 into the URL box
5. Scroll down to SmartTube and download. (You may need to allow installation in the Developer settings found in Settings>My Firestick>About)
6. Sign into your YouTube if desired

Consider Offline-Accessable Collection of Audio
I have been using an app called Music Player by Leopard V7 to store and play downloaded music mp3s directly on my device. There are ads, but there are simple banners at the bottom of the screen and not audible ones between songs. There is no need for internet for use, features like playlists, song speed, and internet lyric search are available. MP3s can be found in various places, just be smart or make your own from YouTube links via conversion sites.
THESE ARE NOT PERFECT SOLUTIONS
MANY flaws are apparent, from app/client performance being less than usual quality, to content creators not earning that ad revenue or sponsor commission. This may mean having to directly support your favorite creators on sites like Kofi and Patreon to keep them afloat.
Because these clients are pulling content directly from YouTube, this means they function using what is called an API, or application programming interface, which allows different software applications to share data. Sometimes these won't work. Due to these being clients that are not nearly as large as YouTube, this means these clients are prone to their API giving out at times making the content impossible to view without being on-site on basic YouTube. These are TEMPORARY, but can still be annoying.
Several of these clients noticably do not create algorythms for you the way YouTube does, relying instead on your DIRECT SUBSCRIBTIONS rather than recommended list of what you may want to watch. Videos still come with related videos below it, and trending pages are still fully viewable, but many of these clients lack lists that cater to the individual without their input, so you may have to manually create a packet of your YouTube subscriptions and history and transfer it onto your clients in order to get your suggestions anywhere near what your YouTube ones were like.
But with enough people taking alternative measures, we can take back our platforms
Back with another weird musing, but does anyone wish that JPV's coding skills contributed to the story in some way? Obviously Oracle fulfils that niche, being the tech person and way better. Jean Paul (during Azrael '95) does not often have a stable living situation, or consistent access to technology, and Azrael has no need for computers. It is also this lack of tech that brings him closer to Oracle, which was a bond that was pretty important for him throughout his run.
I think the distinction between Azrael's engineering skills (fabricating and upgrading his own suits, for example) and Jean Paul's computer skills (like overhauling the Batcave security system, Out-hacking Tim, etc, etc) are important. Azrael does not often do the tedious Jean Paul work, he faces problems head on and builds an arsenal equipped for this approach.
We do see Jean Paul use computers a little, he has his own supercomputer in the Ossavile cave, he also has a laptop in the car while driving in Agent of the Bat... Very responsible of him.
But even if he were to be more tech based, I don't think he could ever occupy Oracle's niche, or challenge her position really. On top of Babs being exceptionally good at her job, there is also the differences in how they utilize tech! Babs operates as a Database and Dispatcher, whereas Jean Paul is more into the coding side of things, as you'd mentioned.
Seeing him develop a software or sometihng similar would be interesting, though I don't know what he would really do with that narratively. I'm also not sure that a social based platform would be in his ball park, he's not a very well-socialized guy himself. He has his Azrael message board situation from Ossaville, but it doesn't seem like he is on there often. If anything, I think Babs is more active than he is.
For applications of his skills, it would be interesting to see him override some security measures or rework things around Wayne Manor again, or even working with Babs/Bruce/Tim to develop something. I would also like to see more of Azrael designing and building things, that has always been someting I really liked, especially in Knightfall. I think it could be fun to have him build another alternate suit or weapon, maybe a scene where Bruce finds some old schematics of his in the Batcave... There is a lot of options there. Limitless potential for one Jean Paul Valley.
They revisit his expertise a bit more in Rebirth, but I am just so uninterested in everything he does there...

Heni here once again! Today I'd like to follow up on my last post about Willow and give an update on how Ourcana's online (and local device sync!) features will function!
The mistakes of the past
Programmers familiar with online security models even as recent as 2015, if not as early as before 2002, may tell you that "Authentication" and "Encryption" were considered two different things. "Authentication" was making sure your user(s) were actually logging in, then you got them "Encryption" through something like https:// connections and that was that.
This model works, but can lead to a class of privacy bugs common in older software. Improper security design, as well as compromises made to "just get the software out there", can be devastating.
Sometimes, application developers just straight up skip a step! The PluralKit model is one such example. System and Member/proxy data is not encrypted in the live database itself. As explicitly stated by PluralKit's hardware owner, Iris, in public, she holds the keys to data via "Full Disk Encryption" (FDE) to satisfy Discord's requirement of "at-rest encryption" for all bot developers. However, the data is still readable while the server is powered on by anyone who compromises the app... or by Iris herself, and anyone she's delegated access to. "FDE" protects only a powered-off disk, and nothing is end-to-end... these are concrete security and privacy gaps. It’s unlikely they’ll see a fix as she’s said in public, in the context of many architectural nits, "that [these] aren’t really issues" — the exact words of the person able to open it all in the first place.
This is, ostensibly, the honor system of privacy models.
The entirety of the privacy model in PluralKit is thus predicated on the login system actually working correctly (and trust in developers with login access to production). If one can "log in" as another user, it's trivial to fetch their system data. And sometimes one can simply attack the system or server itself to access the data. Very few developers today authenticate between internal servers, which means if one is compromised due to a bug or exploit they're all exposed.
How many websites fall under fire today for similar mistakes? To give a fake example for a very real type of headline we see in 2026:
Poob's entire database of ten thousand users was found exposed on the public net today. Every user's photo ID, birth certificate, and social security number was left unencrypted in the database.
Developers, whether through inexperience or by offloading their mental work or responsibilities, are prone to incorporating security as the last step in their software design, if ever. And it's users that pay the price, not the service operators.
This is not to say the solutions are impossible. What if even if the database were compromised, encryption secured one's data? What if even the developers of an application couldn't read your data as a fact of the math not just the honor system?
There's a better way.
Authenticated Encryption with Associated Data
Or more tersely "AEAD" is the security and privacy model in vogue with programmers today.
For example, the TLS v1.3 standard, the peak of online security today and possibly what you're using to access this website right now says:
all ciphers are modeled as Authenticated Encryption with Associated Data (AEAD)

The nature of how exactly this is implemented is best left to academics and cryptography experts, but I can show some of the practical reasons to use such a model with charts I've sketched up in my time working with the worm blossom duo behind inventions such as the Willow Protocol of which Ourcana may be the first application to use in the real world in a serious way.
The particulars of what this looks like can be seen in the diagram below, and have already been released in the worm-blossom Discord forum for preview by academics and researchers before my actual release of Ourcana Online built out of it.
In this case, we're assembling data left to right, and the "thatch" section is where a mix of encrypted and authenticated but not encrypted data reaches the server, after the users' phone or device has finished doing the cryptographic math locally (all in just a few milliseconds, thankfully).
The Relay problem (and solution!)
A user could send a completely encrypted blob to a remote server or database to hold onto for them. Using techniques such as an "encoding" of Willow to an on-disk store and document index (literally, a database) it's possible for users to start asking for their records and sharing them with other peers. "Give me my front history again." or perhaps "tell me Heni's front history, here's a signed ticket from her proving I'm her friend and she said she wants to share it with me in the future".
But in the case where a server operator has 100% unlimited access to all data on the server, privacy isn't actually guaranteed. After all, can't they just look?
With encryption, users can exchange keys, do math, and functionally encrypt their data. But then if the data is encrypted, how would the server know where (as in who) to send the data to? "Here's a binary blob that's totally private" doesn't help the server out at all. The server can't, for example, send a push notification to another app, or pull a profile picture to re-host it for a Discord proxy if all the data is completely encrypted.
I've identified a few different types of "partial encryption schemes" that may actually be useful for Plural systems trying to reach their friends and loved ones, in the diagram below
Shown in the first diagram, but perhaps not immediately obvious, is the idea that we create an "envelope". The "outside" of the envelope is a signed proof that anyone can read. "This message is from Heni, to her friend Alice. Any push notification server is allowed to tell Alice that the message is from Heni. You are not allowed to open the envelope." Inside the envelope is an encrypted blob. Even if a server does break the rules and peek inside, it just appears to be random noise. There's nothing useful without a decryption key that only Alice has locally (if she keeps it secure and private, that is).
Trust no one, not even your server
My privacy model, while novel in application, is built of standard, off-the-shelf parts. Using bab I've spent the past week talking to Aljoscha and Sammy from worm-blossom doing my best to prove their theories on actual hardware, using production-tier application design.
Bab hashes allow for, through a Merkle tree system, the partial verification and total verification of data in transport. This means it's possible to definitively prove that Alice or Heni actually authored a message, provided you've registered their public keys for the math. There's zero trust in the server required to know you're speaking to your friends and not an imposter.
I ran a little benchmark on my 5-year-old Apple MacBook Pro M1 Max laptop (and a friend ran it on his similar tier AMD-based laptop) and I was very excited to see that even low-tier consumer hardware like a 10-year-old laptop should be fast enough to back up a user's own data from their phone.

As a small aside, I've been working diligently to incorporate my own security architecture into a hard fork of PluralKit I call "OurKitty". One of the first things I did after patching issues in the security model was go and take a stab at every ask in the old PluralKit server's "suggestions" channel. A few Quality of Life upgrades were easy wins, and I can't wait to provide them to Ourcana users!
It's been quite refreshing to test my own code versus the original in virtual server environments at the scale of a thousand shards and see perf gains in realtime. I'm so excited to release the software once the Ourcana Online launch has settled.
Both Ourcana Online's own Rust server as well as the future OurKitty server release will be available under the AGPL-3.0 (as it should be)! AGPL-3.0 requires offering corresponding source to users who interact with the service over a network. I'm going further: embedding the source directly in the app, so any user can self-host from what they already have rather than chase a link that might disappear.

A whistleblower complaint alleges John Solly claimed to have stored highly sensitive Social Security data on a thumb drive. Solly and Leidos
John Solly, a software engineer and former member of the so-called Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), is the DOGE operative reportedly accused in a whistleblower complaint of telling colleagues that he stored sensitive Social Security Administration (SSA) data on a thumb drive and wanted to share the information with his new employer, multiple sources tell WIRED.
Since October, according to a copy of his résumé, Solly has worked as the chief technology officer for the health IT division of a government contractor called Leidos, which has already received millions in SSA contracts and could receive up to $1.5 billion in contracts with SSA based on a five-year deal it signed in 2023. Solly’s personal website and LinkedIn have been taken offline as of this week.
Responding to a request for comment, Solly, through his legal counsel, denied engaging in any wrongdoing. A spokesperson for Leidos also said the company found no evidence supporting the whistleblower’s claims against Solly.
Solly was one of 12 DOGE team members at SSA, where, according to the résumé on his personal website, he supported “other DOGE engineers on initiatives including Digital SSN, Death Master File cleanup,” and “SSN verification API (EDEN 2.0).” The “death master file” is an SSA database containing millions of Social Security records of deceased people and is maintained so that their identities can’t be used for fraud. An API, or application programming interface, allows different programs to talk to each other, including pulling data and information from each other. In this case, it could allow Social Security data to be accessed by agencies and institutions outside of SSA.
The allegation was revealed in a complaint filed to SSA’s internal watchdog first reported earlier this week by The Washington Post, which did not name Solly or Leidos. According to the Post, the complaint was filed with the SSA’s Office of the Inspector General earlier this year and alleges that the former DOGE employee told coworkers he took copies of the SSA’s Numerical Identification System, or NUMIDENT, as well as the “death master file.” NUMIDENT is a master SSA database containing all information included in a Social Security number application, including full names, birth dates, race, and more personally identifiable information.
In the complaint, according to the Post, a whistleblower alleges that the former DOGE employee sought help transferring a set of data from a thumb drive to a personal computer so he could “sanitize” it before uploading it for use at a private-sector company. The former DOGE employee allegedly said that he expected to receive a presidential pardon if his actions were unlawful, the complaint reportedly stated.
Solly “did not share, access, or view any personally identifiable information (PII) maintained by SSA, including SSA’s Death Master File (DMF) and Numerical Identification System (Numident). The allegations made by a supposedly anonymous source are patently false and slanderous. Mr. Solly will take all appropriate steps to clear his good name and stellar reputation,” says Seth Waxman, who is representing Solly. “He is certain that any fair review of the facts and circumstances surrounding these spurious allegations will fully exonerate him.”
Leidos is a major contractor for SSA. Between 2010 and 2018, the company brought in millions of dollars in SSA IT contracts. In 2018, Leidos was awarded contracts potentially worth up to $639 million for IT support services and processing disability claims. In 2023, the company announced that it had been awarded an estimated $1.5 billion IT contract with the agency. As part of DOGE’s blitz into the US government in early 2025, Leidos, like many government contractors, saw some of its contracts cut.
Leidos spokesperson Todd Blecher tells WIRED, “We completed an internal investigation, including employee interviews, and found no substantiation of the assertions against Mr. Solly. Our investigation involved advanced digital forensics that found no evidence that the Social Security Administration data described in a whistleblower complaint is, or ever has been, on Leidos networks. We also determined that Mr. Solly never plugged a thumb drive or any other storage device into his company-issued laptop. There is no overlap in his current work statement at Leidos with the work he performed at SSA. We are fully cooperating with the Social Security Administration on this matter.”
“The allegations by a singular anonymous source have been strongly refuted by all named parties—SSA, the former employee, and the company,” an SSA spokesperson tells WIRED. “Even The Washington Post admitted they could not verify the information—because it is not true. Last August, SSA’s chief data officer, Chuck Borges, filed a different complaint to the US Office of Special Counsel accusing DOGE of wrongfully uploading SSA data, including highly sensitive information on millions of people with Social Security numbers, to an unsecured cloud server. In the complaint, Borges alleged that the actions undertaken by DOGE could put the data at risk of being hacked or leaked.
In Borges’ complaint, he specifically named Solly as a DOGE member who requested that the agency move live NUMIDENT data, which contains millions of Social Security numbers, and upload it into a cloud environment lacking “independent security controls.”
Other DOGE members, including Edward Coristine, Aram Moghaddassi, and Michael Russo were alleged in Borges’ complaint to have taken part in the discussions to move NUMIDENT data. Before joining DOGE at 19 years old, Coristine worked for a startup that hired reformed convicted hackers. Coristine, Moghaddassi, and Russo did not immediately respond to requests for comment prior to publication.
Days after filing the complaint, Borges resigned from his role at SSA, citing actions against him by the agency that “make my duties impossible to perform legally and ethically.” There were other controversies surrounding DOGE’s activities at SSA: In one instance, while the DOGE team was at SSA, they moved the Social Security numbers of thousands of immigrants into the “death master file” as a way to effectively shut off their ability to live and work in the US.
When Solly arrived at SSA last year, he was originally tasked with consolidating the agency’s IT ticketing system, according to two SSA sources familiar with his work. By June of last year, he had seemingly taken on a new project involving NUMIDENT data, according to the Borges complaint. A résumé Solly posted to his personal website also outlined work for the agency on something called EDEN 2.0.
EDEN, or the Enterprise Data Exchange Network, was originally part of a system to help financial institutions verify the identities of their customers, according to Leland Dudek, former acting SSA commissioner. The EDEN system pulls data from NUMIDENT, which Solly would likely have needed access to in order to work on EDEN. “Sharing things typically goes over a mainframe,” says Dudek. “That's really not a great way to share data.”
It’s unclear exactly what the EDEN 2.0 project was intended to accomplish, but appears to be an API system to supply real-time Social Security number verification to other government agencies, according to a source familiar with the work.
According to Dudek, the first version of EDEN was built around the same time as another SSA tool, the electronic Consent Based Social Security Number Verification (eCBSV). This is a fraud detection tool that allows financial institutions to check their records against Social Security data, to ensure, for instance, that someone opening a bank account is who they say they are. In order to share that data safely with outside institutions, SSA needed a system that didn’t require mainframe access. EDEN, though not technically part of the eCBSV system, was instrumental to the project.
“The underlying piece that made that work, because you're making agreements with different commercial entities, and you're exposing it through an API, that was what the EDEN system was designed to do,” says Dudek.
Though Dudek says that EDEN was not designed with the purpose of sharing SSA data with other agencies, he says “it could be” used for that. “A logical extension of [sharing data with financial institutions] could be used to share data between other agencies,” he says.
Dudek says that the DOGE team at SSA never directly told him that they were working on EDEN and that he did not instruct them to. “They were more interested in trying to find the fraud in the NUMIDENT file,” he says.
It appears that EDEN is already being used to share data with other agencies. On February 25, William Kirk, inspector general of the Small Business Administration (SBA), appeared before the Senate Committee on Small Business and Entrepreneurship on combating fraud, particularly in loans given out to support businesses during the Covid-19 pandemic. In a written statement submitted alongside his testimony, Kirk says that “SBA also has stated that it has expanded data-sharing agreements across federal databases,” including “the Social Security Administration’s Enterprise Data Exchange Network.”
The Science of Discovering the Past: Geophysical Archaeology

While much of archaeology involves unearthing artifacts, knowing where to find those sites requires research at the surface, as does mapping the site. Geophysical surveys help archaeologists know where to focus their efforts and help them avoid fruitless digs where no artifacts or remaining structures lie below the surface as well as avoiding the destruction of sites that are culturally sensitive, such as cemeteries.

There are many methods used to map below the surface, some of which can be done with little training while others meld multiple methods for a more complete map of what's under the surface. Those techniques that are more specialized were adapted from those used to explore for minerals. Mineral surveys seek to know what is deep beneath the surface and archaeological sites are relatively near the surface. These surveys also are focused on larger structures that would take a long time to unearth.
Various methods of performing geophysical surveys and reveal different information. Metal detectors can be used to find caches of metal, but they don't give detailed information of what is below the surface. They can be used to discover new places to focus studies on. They work by inducing eddy currents, or a looping current between the detector and the metal in the ground, which causes a change in how the current flows in the machine, resulting in a signal being reported to the user, either through sound or visual output. Many locations have regulations or laws that dictate how metal detectors can be used and the ownership of those items found.

A more precise form of the this falls into two types: Electrical resistance meters and electromagnetic conductivity. Electrical resistance meters work by inserting probes into the soil through which electrical currents are passed and the resistance of the ground around them is detected, revealing the structures beneath as things like stone have different resistance than the soil around them. Electromagnetic conductivity is similar to metal detection in that a magnetic field is created by an electric field of a known frequency while detectors pick up the change. These detectors and currents are stronger than those of metal detectors with a related increase in size of the detector.

Ground-penetrating radar uses electromagnetic pulses to detect what is under the surface in a way similar to how radar works in other applications. The pulses are reflected off items under the surface and recorded by the detector. It's possible to discover how things are layered beneath the surface because of the differences in reflections.

Lidar is an optical technique that uses light, usually lasers, to map the land. It has the ability to penetrate foliage, such as forest canopies, and allows features beneath the surface to be distinguished. This also allows features that are too large to be distinguished from the ground to be mapped. Lidar has the additional benefit of being easily integrated into Geographical Information Systems, integrated computer hardware and software systems that are used to analyze and visualize geographic data.
