the more we learn about the world around julien the more it really feels like he's a character who was meant to be older?
like, okay, he was being a hero (by some people's standards) of the rebellion at 17, but sure, he's not the only child soldier pc, azune's even younger
then there's the whole fact that the childhood friends narrative with aranessa barely fits because she is at minimum 11 years older than him
and now there's his mentorship of alogar, which in episode one at least the way he and thaisha talked made it sound like yeah, thaisha doesn't like julien, but she trusts him enough in this one respect to take care of her son, on almost a parent to parent level. her son, who we have just learned is. barely two years younger than julien
(and if he's been training the barrowguard for a significant amount of time, he definitely has the skills and experience for it, but hey julien how many of the people you've mentored have been older than you?)
and it's a fun choice bc i think that leaks a lot into his character? like both his arrogance and superiority around most people, but also the inferiority in his head and the way he acts like he so desperately has something to prove, yeah some of that is from his station and his father no doubt, but i think a good portion of it also stems from the fact that since he was a teenager, if not his entire life, he's been playing the role of someone who's like ten years older than he actually is
