Idk if this makes literally any sense but re: Ben as stage Evan vs movie Evan. I feel like I feel bad for movie Evan much more… distantly? I guess. Like you said everything is just pitiful. Feels like something you’re seeing happen distantly (perhaps to a kid you don’t know very well at school) and it’s like :( poor kid. Whereas with the stage version I sympathize because I get into his head more. I see him do these things and I know why he’s doing them and I think it’s bad but I get it. It’s much closer and much more complex. Also Ben is just a great on stage crier. (TLDR: movie Evan could be replaced with a small littol puppy and the movie would be virtually the same both in plot and my feelings toward Evan)
