Koichi remembers
Back when I was a young kid I never really understood the overall character concept of Koichi’s past— I mean I did understand, but just not as much as I do now as an adult.
Because man, was his life traumatic. This kid, found out he had a twin brother after his grandmother passes away, follows him around wanting to talk to him but didn’t want to interrupt his brother’s life.
Then when he finally gains the courage to take that next step, he falls down a flight of stairs, and then flatlining on his way to the hospital dying do to his injuries— his lasts words being his brother’s name, but through sheer force of will and desire to follow his brother, he finds himself in the Digital World as a spirit where his pain, bitterness and jealousy lay bare for him to feel and witness until Cherubimon came while he was vulnerable.
This is why I love Koichi as a character, he’s full of angst and complexity, and I love it. Plus his bond with Koji is an added bonus I can’t help but adore.

I was rewatching Frontier just a few minutes ago and I realized this scene from the episode “Home Again, Takuya Returns”. I never realized as a kid what this scene meant but I do now.
See there’s a thing with twins where they can feel when the other is in pain. Obviously, some can more then others and some can’t.
With this scene where Koichi falls and injured himself to the point of death, there’s a moment, only a few seconds where it shows Koji wincing and gasping in pain, as if he were reacting to something that hurt him.
It’s such a small detail but I really thought that was a nice touch, showing that Koji could still feel when his twin was hurt, despite not ever knowing of him.
It adds on to what Koichi said in his letter about always feeling lonely and felt a sadness in his heart because Koji wasn’t next to him.
Makes me love these two even more. 👍🏼💛

Look at the pain on his face, look at how he chases after an apparition of his brother, begging and pleading for him not to leave him and then utterly shattering in a mess of sobs when he’s all alone. Let this boy rest.
I love him, Koichi is the absolute best and I’m so glad that he and Koji finally met, bonded and grew to love each other and that they both got their happy ending.
