Mom is in her happy place! Well, one of them... we spent the day at several different greenhouses and then planting in the garden! And, I actually like planting too, although I didn't mind soaking up some Vitamin D! It was time to thin the irises! Every 3-5 years it’s good to thin out iris beds as they reproduce and can become crowded. This leads to a lack of blooms! 1. Give your iris a haircut! Leave about a third of the leaf length. 2. Dig up the rhizomes. Our babies were super happy in this little bed around the mailbox, and so pulling them out took some doing. 3. Split any iris that have more than one set of leaves coming out of the rhizome. You can break them or use a clean, sharp knife! 4. Replant them! Make sure you don’t bury they entire iris rhizome. Part of them need to be exposed above the dirt/mulch! 5. If you’re planning on storing any for a while before replanting, trim the leaves more leaving about an inch left! I keep mine away from the elements in a cardboard box in the garage. It isn’t recommended to store them long term like this, but it will do as you prepare your next flower bed! #iris #gardening #fromgrandma #beautiful #diginthedirt #gardens #rhizomes #springtimefavorites #alifeatthelanding https://www.instagram.com/p/CFQRkoVDrJP/?igshid=kd5riubccjzw

Make it rain! Woah what a week in this heat! Very grateful to have made lots of new friends in loganville Georgia this week! We built a garden together and planted beans, corn, sunflowers, zinnias, cosmos from seed. The beds and by the teepee we have pumpkins, peppers, tomatoes, cucumber, okra, and eggplant. Thanks to the @wyldecenter for discounted plants and to all my friends who donated plants. Each week this month I'll be doing this at schools all around ...near and far! 😅 . . . . @georgiaorganics @iamgeorgiagrown @pbs.teachers @qccgeorgia #ladybugfun #gardeneveryday #blessed #diginthedirt #schoolgarden (at A Kid's World Child Care Learning Center) https://www.instagram.com/p/ByI-0VDhEbz/?igshid=1qfj1iyp6hizb
