🌻 taichi + sora // [23] summer songs/songmixes
i’m not sure whether i interpreted the song correctly but i’ve been listening to sunflower - post malone & swae lee all over again! i’m setting this story in their middle school days just to give it a more young love vibe lol.
___
They had been friends since forever, but his mother started to interfere more after they officially announced their relationship as a couple. Taichi knew that Yuuko only tried her best to become that type of ‘cool mom’, yet her way was often beyond his comprehension. Every time Sora came to his house, Yuuko would immediately treat her like royalty, claiming her as her most precious daughter-in-law she prayed for endlessly when they were only in middle school. There was even that one time when Sora stayed a little bit too late because she was trying to teach the helpless Taichi for the exam, and then Yuuko said, “you can just stay the night here! It’s okay if you want to sleep in Taichi’s room!” —which of course made Sora very flustered.
This time, his mother asked his girlfriend to arrange a flower to decorate their small house as she knew that Sora was a daughter of iemoto.
Of course, Taichi scolded his own mother for being such a bother, but Sora immediately jumped in and agreed with the idea. Excitedly, Yuuko set up the date where she was available to join her in the process. However, as Taichi and Sora arrived in the Yagami’s after school on the promised date, they found a note in the refrigerator door saying that she had a sudden errand.
Sora decided to do it on her own since they already brought a bunch of flowers from her mother’s shop. She sat on the couch with all the tools spread above the table: plants, scissors, and a vase that according to Taichi hadn’t been used for a long time. Taichi watched as Sora worked, and even though she always complained that she would be never good at ikebana, her hands were moving placidly just like an expert. (But then again, he never really watched a flower arranger worked before, so….)
He knew that Sora was a total silent when she did a certain task, but Taichi loathed the dead air between them especially that they owned the entire house by themselves (Hikari sent him a message that she was going for a shopping with Miyako). He finally sighed and tried to push his luck. “Sorry that my mom is very irresponsible.”
“What do you mean?” Sora answered without averting her gaze. “On the contrary, I feel honored that she entrusted me with this stuff.”
Taichi paused, thinking about what to say next.
“Can I lie down on your lap?”
“Okay.”
He didn’t expect that but he went on anyway, putting his head in her lap. They were back on the silent term, nevertheless. She was still busy cutting stems that were too lengthy.
“Can I watch something?” Taichi knew that Sora usually listened to some traditional Japanese music especially to get in the mood of ikebana, but they didn’t have a radio and only chatty shows that were available this time of the day.
“Sure.”
He turned on the TV, and it was either a chatty show or a lame drama in each station. She didn’t look very bothered; it was him who got so bored instead.
“Can I go to sleep?”
“You can.”
“Are you in a good mood or is this your way of relaxing?”
“What do you mean?”
“Well, you seem very… undisturbed.” And he felt kind of neglected, to be honest.
“Why do I have to feel disturbed anyway?” she laughed. “Don’t worry, Taichi. I know that you’re tired of the continuous training for the last game, yet you still managed to study hard for the exams. And not only you won the game, but you also got a very nice score, so you deserve a little break and I don’t mind being your pillow for a while.”
Taichi stared at Sora agape while she continued to trim her sunflower. A new program was airing on the TV, presenting the chart of current music starting from the new entry this week. An English song then filled the living room, and as he listened to the lyrics, he never took off his eyes of her.
You’re a sunflower, I think your love will be too much.
“You are a sunflower, eh, Sora?” he mumbled quietly. “You really love me too much….”
“Wow. Your English is surely improved,” she commented half-jokingly—he didn’t expect her to also listen to the song. “Who knows that in the future you can work abroad? A diplomat or something.”
“Well, I don’t mind doing anything as long as I have you everywhere I go.”
And that was when she finally stopped; her cheek flushed in his sudden confession. Taichi had his laugh this time and hovered his neck to stole a quick kiss on her lips. “Now I really feel like sleeping,” he concluded and pulled his head back, nuzzling against her lap just like a napping cat.
