god, jesus. i have one of my instagram algorithms set to basically just entirely stranger things memes, but cos it's Instagram they're like. uber normie GA fans. like i just saw a vid where someone edited the Djo song onto the final scene of Steve and Nancy and Johnathan and Robin all together and I giggled bcos I was like omg like the meme.... and then i checked the comments and everyone was like "omg this would've been so much better", "we would've forgiven them from it not being a song from the 80s" and i fucking BLANCHED. WHAT DO YOU MEAN. WHAT THE FUCK DO YOU.

anyway, that part wasn't even a big deal, i scrolled away with a sour taste in my mouth and was fucking . greeted by a post shitting on mike wheeler's "nerdy ahh" for being the one to ruin things for dustin??? with regards to saying no to stella or whatever the fuck her name is who invites them to their party. and the entire comment section was like "dnd so lame lmaooo" "mike is such a shit wingman" "so he gets to have a gf the whole time but..." "they could have just played dnd another time" like OH MY FUCKING GOD HAVE THESE PEOPLE MISSED THE POINT. I AM STARTING TO WONDER IF THERE EVER ACTUALLY WAS A POINT OR IF ALL OF THE SPEECHES THEY GAVE ABOUT THE SHOW BEING FOR OUTCASTS WAS LITERALLY JUST SOME HIPSTER BULLSHIT. cos it sure is smelling that way.

like god it makes so much sense why they did the finale the way they did bcos EVERY post i come across under that algorithm is just like rife with idiocy and evil???? the fans dont give a shit about any of the characters' actual personalities and byler has still managed to fly the fuck over their heads. had they been around in the time of eddie munson they wouldve been right on his back with their pitchforks, for fucks sake. i mean of COURSE it's just fucking netflix slop that is commodifying the identities of ostracisation. i should've fucking known better!!!!! my fault for hoping a show that says it's for me would actually be true to its word!!! i should have known better than to trust the cast and crew ive known and followed for the last ten fucking years of my life would deliver something true and good. not like ive wasted HALF OF MY LIFE being committed to a show that was never actually committed to me except to decieve me for the express purpose of ripping me off until the very last fucking second.

i'm performing a study on the differences between cultures on various social media platforms

here's what i've discovered so far:

tiktok users are on average much funnier than youtube users. the exact cause of this is currently unknown, but i suspect it has something to do with the ability to comment and reply with images that is absent on youtube

twitter and bluesky are kinda two sides of the same coin. when bluesky was created and all the left-leaning people saw a way to escape from twitter, pretty much all of them flocked towards it with little hesitation. this had the unintended side effect of creating an extremely intense concentration gradient between the two sites, leading to an incredibly polarized pair of platforms

tumblr users are pretty consistently the gayest. i am sure that this does not come as a surprise to anyone, but i'm not really sure why this is the case

reddit users have the most variety in behavior across the board. this is likely due to the subreddit system, which creates sort of digital culture borders between subreddits which mirrors real-world countries

4chan users scare me. 4chan sort of acts as the dumping grounds of the internet, where concepts and trends that are too extreme or outlandish to stick on ordinary platforms can take hold, congregate, and grow. this is probably what causes 4chan, and by extension, its users to be Like That

in conclusion, youtube users aren't funny, bluesky and twitter are the yin-yang of the political compass, tumblr users are the ultimate practitioners of homosexuality, reddit users are shockingly normal, and 4chan users live in a city of corpses

My personal prediction about the tik tok red note migration is that it will lead to new argots due to the change to stricter censorship,

Of course there will also be cultural diffusion, and I’m interested in the argots we will adopt because of that,

I am more specifically interested in new or adopted LGBTQ+ argots due to the specific rule on red note censoring LGBTQ+ related content, because in many places where similar oppression happened, new argots developed, such as the victorian green carnations, “Are you a friend of Dorothy?”, the Hanky code, sward-speak, etc.

DIGITAL ETHNOGRAPHY

For this weeks task I chose London based artist and writer Florence Given. This year at only 20 years old she was named Cosmopolitan Influencer of the Year 2019.

Being an illustrator and public figure, Given aims to empower women to embrace their sexuality and speak out against toxic patriarchal ideals, such as slut-shaming. Given is very active on Instagram however this year she has been appearing on TV and Radio, spreading her iconic slogan ‘DUMP HIM’ and other feminist messages which appear on prints, tops and tote bags.

In an interview she reveals that she has struggled with burnout and imposter syndrome before, by overworking herself and struggling to say no to things which weren’t good for her mental health. This gives us an insight into what can happen behind the social media front.

Meet The Internet Researchers Unmasking Russian Assassins

The group Bellingcat seeks to unmask covert operations, rogue groups and corruption around the globe. But can it keep its independence?

Toler, 30, is part of an Internet research organization known as Bellingcat. Formed in 2014, the group first got attention for its meticulous documentation of the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. Toler used posts to Russia's equivalent of Facebook, VK, to track Russian soldiers as they slipped in and out of eastern Ukraine — where they covertly aided local rebels.

Since then, Toler and his colleagues have been up to a whole lot more. They've used commercial satellite images to track Chinese air bases; watched security operations unfold on social media in Venezuela; and pinpointed the locations of chemical weapons attacks in Syria.

Now Toler and the nine other full-time members of Bellingcat's small, international staff are increasingly being drawn into some of the biggest news stories in the world. This week they unmasked one of two Russian agents believed to be behind a spate of poisonings in the U.K. (they exposed the other one last month). And they're collaborating with news outlets to help identify suspects in the disappearance of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi.

It's a rapid rise for what was, just a few years ago, a group of amateurs. Bellingcat was founded by Eliot Higgins, a British native whose previous jobs included helping the settlement of refugees in the U.K. and administrator in a women's lingerie factory.
