Yamaha DX7

Given my massive interest in music, I came up with a completely custom digital musical instrument.

Without giving too much away, I will say technically, the concept dropped fully formed into my mind, which was cool.

@ some future point I might make an app version for other people to download and play.

Pianos and whatnot

I know at least some of my followers play instruments and/or have musical backgrounds, so I’m asking you earnestly for your feedback here.

I have a Yamaha P-125 digital piano. I had a cheap Casio keyboard (not 88 keys, not weighted, not graduated volume, etc) when I began learning piano and I realized it was something I really wanted to dedicate time to so I invested in a Yamaha P-125, stand, 3 pedal thingy, etc.

Honestly it’s everything I need for me playing by myself but there are a few things I wish I had now that I’m reaching a level of performance that I think could really help me further my musical talents.

1) the P-125 comes with 4 different samples of acoustic pianos, and they all sound amazing. I like the default, and Piano2 the most, but each has its own sound that definitely sounds like a kind of piano you’ve heard in a certain sized room or concert hall at one time or another. It’s pretty amazing in this regard. It also has several electric piano sounds (think 60′s/70′s and blues etc), some organ and pipe organ sounds, some clavichord / harpsichord sounds etc, but it’s not at all a 300 different fonky sounds Synthesizer. that’s a different instrument.

2) It has two speakers that get the job done for a small room, but it really... it doesn’t play as loud as I can bang the keys on an acoustic upright or grand piano. It’s just not loud enough. I can fill the downstairs with piano music if we’re not talking, but I couldn’t play it in a crowded bar. I don’t need to play it in a crowded bar, but what I’m saying is, you need to STFU if I’m playing.

3) It has a USB / MIDI interface so that I can sequence my own music / upload MIDI songs I grab from the interwebz / record songz I’m playing with Logic Pro X / whatever, BUT, its interface is definitely circa 2014 or whatever (think USB 1.1).

4) There are speaker outs for it so I could hook it up to an amp / amps....

My question to the musically inclined is this:

I’m $800-ish dollars into this investment and it fits well in the room I have it in. Should I:

1) Just buy an amp so that it’s louder? Volume is one of my chief complaints. I would like an upgraded digital interface (think bluetooth / more modern MIDI), but my #1 complaint above all others is volume

2) Drop $2K on a top-of-the-line digital grand piano which will by default give me 1) more volume 2) an upgraded digital experience usually 3) more instruments / synth sounds

How much do amps cost? I’m telling you it’s probably got a pair of 8 watt speakers or some crap like that.

Suggestions please!
