This short survey, by Emma Stanford of Bodleian Digital Library Systems and Services, is intended to help digital librarians understand how researchers discover and access digitized rare books and manuscripts. Understanding how this process works will help us to create useful resources and to place them where researchers can find them. The survey is part of Emma's research for her master's dissertation in library science at City University London; it is being undertaken with the support of the Bodleian Libraries, but NOT as a Bodleian Libraries project. The Asian Section is happy to feature a guest post by Justin McDaniel, Chair of the Department of Religious Studies and Undergraduate Studies and Susanne Kerekes, Ph.D. candidate in Religious Studies at Penn. The Penn Museum has recently had some of their manuscripts digitized and cataloged as part of a larger project to digitize all the Thai manuscripts at the University of Pennsylvania. The Museum’s manuscripts, along with many others, are available online at Penn Libraries’ websites: Penn in Hand and OPenn.

Digital Medieval Manuscripts Fellow Bridget Whearty Ph.D.’13, who along with Digital Medieval Projects Manager Ben Albritton runs the club, framed the group as a means of satisfying varied student interests in medieval literature—from those held by classics majors to those of “Game of Thrones” fans—and giving students the opportunity to discover new passages.
This is delightful. Digital resource for paleography (study of historical writing), focus on England around the time of William the Conqueror. (Contains nice digital images!) Because, y'know, everybody is as interested in my current enthusiasm as I am.
