Queens Residents Share Ideas on How to Make NYC the World's Leading Digital City
NYC Digital convened the Queens Digital Roadmap Meetup last night in Long Island City from 7:00 - 9:00PM — the fourth in a series of participatory discussions throughout New York City focused on gathering public feedback and input on the City’s digital growth and future.
The Queens Meetup was generously hosted by the Coalition for Queens' Queens Tech Meetup and Code for America, who both presented to the larger group of about 80 participants.
The Meetup began with a presentation of the New York City’s Digital Roadmap, and was followed immediately by five group breakout sessions that explored the five pillars of the Roadmap: Access, Education, Open Government, Engagement and Industry. At the conclusion of the event, the groups got together to share their top ideas and recommendations with the City.
Topics covered included support for increasing Internet access and options, strategies for implementing STEM education and expanding mentorship opportunities, creating open data standards and policy change across cities and countries, sustaining online and offline public engagement, and fostering local tech and digital talent.
We thank all of the participants who joined us last night for sharing their thoughts and feedback. Please keep an eye out for the final Digital Roadmap, set to be released in the Fall of 2013.
