I'm gonna say, read some of the stuff they've said about casting for that movie. Like they inserted several POC where there were none and cast tilda Swinton because they were trying to buck the "fu manchu wise man" or "dragon lady" stereotypes that would've come with casting accurate to the comics. So yeah, the took an originally Tibetan character and made him a white woman, but they also took a white character & made him black and wrote in a major Chinese character, and they've expressed why
