Anyone else remember when they made Dinty Moore into a Bunyanesque lumberjack in the 70s?
Do they still put his thumbprint on the cans?
Cool thing - Dinty Moore came from the newspaper comic strip Bringing Up Father - it was the name of the Tavern where Jiggs got corned beef and an adult beverage.
Strip creator George McManus named the character after New York restaurant owner James Moore. Once he found out he was the inspiration, he started calling himself “Dinty” and opened a chain of diners. Hormel licensed the name for their stew, and the rest is high-sodium history.

It was a real shame The Hormel Girls broke up over that mysterious scandal. They were on track to mega-stardom.

Dear Gus,
Brevity is Dinty Moore’s literary journal of flash creative nonfiction. Today I went to the journal’s 20th anniversary reading that featured Beth Ann Fennelly, who is the current poet laureate of Mississippi.

The after bowl appears to about 2 inches across compared to it’s contents. And also appears to be garnished with tasty cobwebs.
