i just had the most amazing revelation of like. what if diomedes is so extremely jealous of achilles and HATES him for the first few years like he spent YEARS UPON YEARS trying to be better than his father and this fishboy comes along and achieves the title of the best achaean! how dare he! and like he tries to be better than him and does not care if he dies HE NEEDS TO BE BETTER THAN HIM
