Dip & Flip Burger - Dip & Flip, Battersea
*NEW NUMBER 1 BURGER KLAXON ALERT!*
First there was Dirty Burger, it couldn't be beaten for nearly 2 years. Then i discovered Mother Flipper, which kicked Dirty Burger off the top spot. I never thought that only months after trying Mother Flipper that i would find a burger to beat them all.
Dip & Flip have a restaurant in Battersea, but they also have a pop up at Riverside Feast, part of the Street Feast family, at Battersea Power Station. It's £5 (£4 in advance) for entry, which includes a free outdoor cinema, and then you have the choice to eat at many popular indie food stalls, with cocktail bars and more. I came here with the intention of having Dip & Flip, choosing Riverside Feast to have the luxury of the outdoors weather and to browse other food joints.
The idea of a burger having roast beef and gravy was too irresistible from the moment i heard about it. Roast dinners are one of my favourite things, burgers ARE my favourite thing. This could only go right for me, unless it was done horribly wrong.
So the Dip & Flip burger is a beef patty, topped with cold roast beef dipped in gravy, ketchup and mustard, cheese, pickles and I'm pretty sure it was white cabbage in there, complete with a brioche bun.
So lets start with the patty. It was AMAZING. It reminded me a lot of the burgers from Meat Liquor/Mission/Market. Full of flavour and decently sized, a great chew to it. The juices flowed as you bit in to it.
The cheese was gooey and oozing over the beef patty, mixed with the flavours of the ketchup and mustard gave it a really strong taste. They certainly didn't hold back with the quantity, this is how cheese should be.
The size of this burger is quite a beast and the bun does amazingly well to hold it all together, especially due to how soggy it could get with all the sauces and toppings.
But its the roast beef that makes this a winning construction. I didn't think to ask if it's meant to be cold or hot, this could differ on how often they cook the beef. Mine was cold, but this was the winning formula. The combination of a minced chewy beef with a melt in your mouth sliced roast beef was incredible. Dipping the roast beef in gravy added that rich taste which melted through the rest of the burger. I have never eaten anything in my life that produced sounds from my mouth that i had never heard before. I could have replaced Meg Ryan in that classic scene from When Harry Met Sally and won an Oscar.
So please take my advice and check out the best burger in London, the best burger I've had in my life. You will not regret this.
