#dire bear

The dire bear!!! A quick and fun mini project that I completed this month. Still staying in the theme of this month it seems: tongues, teeth, and grossness. Finally treated myself to a new gloss varnish, so got to play with that too for the mouth and blood.

Fingers crossed my mini bases arrive this week, as I have a lot of chocobos (7 in total) that are ready to stand on bases and to have their photos taken.

May still touch up on the bear later on, but for now, i'm happy with how they've come out.

I am so chuffed to have this piece finished and approved! An illustration arranged over discord, featuring a couple of DnD characters and their trusty dire bear companion, and overall a very satisfying piece to work on. I am always so eternally grateful for people who are patient with me and let me work on these bigger things at my own (slow, sporadic) speed!

D&D wonderfully bad ideas

So today, in my second session of playing, and at level 3, our party, consisting of an annoying gnome wizard, a luxodon Paladin, a goliath cleric barbarian, and me, a wood elf ranger, got a bit side tracked by bear tracks, the paladin, when prey is afoot is so single minded that the party basically follows the tracks, and ends up engaging with a dire cave bear (challenge rating of 6).... and not dying. Basically the wizard cast rope trick, we all climb up and in to an extra dimensional pocket, the luxodon acts as an anchor, and the other three of us take turn hanging out of it at 30 some feet in the air, using ranged attacks until the bear runs away. Then the luxodon jumps down the rope, runs after it, attempts to use his horn, fails the role, and sounds like a small little elephant prey, which gets the bear to turn around and come back, wherein the first hit, which I do a bunch of badassery (pulling the gnome back into the hole after being dragged out by the luxodon then tossed back at the rope)and then the goliath pulls the luxodon in, I hand a rope to the goliath, hang out and shoot and kill the dire cave bear that we weren't supposed to fight.

Daily D&D Monster: Dire Bear [NEW]

It's easy to guffaw at the giant "sloths", but it's also important to remember that it's prefaced by "giant". Even an unwary, peaceful giant like Glossotherium can wreck your shit any day of the week. -- [UPDATE: 8/28/2018]: I checked my schedule, and I have more redo-s to do before the end. So, Executive Decision: I'll be working on those and then start on the final legs of the entries. Boy, the old picture was really lazy. This one's inspired by an old picture of a bulette from the original Monster Manual. (p.s. Lias was originally in the tree but I scrapped him because he was already in a picture two days ago) (p.p.s. btw the young adventurer guy is named Lias now kay)
