Waking up to another human body besides his is downright surreal. Jake’s eyes blink open and there’s an entire other person in his bed.
Good thing he’d had Dirk’s cat period as a transition from sleeping completely by his lonesome, he supposes. At least the extra warmth is familiar.
Dirk is not a graceful sleeper. He snores softly, blanket kicked off to the floor, stretching into some godawful position that makes Jake’s spine hurt just to look at. Huh. Jake would have thought this was a cat trait. Did he retain any of his feline ones?
That question is answered as soon as it’s asked, when Dirk shifts slightly and the snores change into purrs.
Jake stares at him, helplessly infatuated.
The shift also caused Dirk’s undershirt to ride up, exposing an alluring strip of tummy. Jake’s urge to bury his face in it is unchanged, even if the fur is currently limited to a barely-visible blond treasure trail.
Another shift in position. Jake reacts before he quite realizes what’s happening: before Dirk can take a tumble to the floor, Jake takes hold of him, slipping one arm under his knees and another under his shoulders.
Dirk’s eyes snap open, sharp and bright: then he catches Jake’s gaze, and all the tension goes out of him, suddenly ragdoll-limp. His eyes lid, and his mouth faintly curves.
“Oh, you,” Jake says, and then he cannot stop himself from kissing Dirk’s stupidly handsome face. It just makes him purr louder.
