This is Audre Lorde - Audre was legally blind and described herself as “crazy and queer”. She focussed her activism on fighting for women who, like her, were excluded from mainstream feminism, whether because of class, race, sexuality, or disability.

You are valid for having a disability, physical or mentally.

being ND doesn’t mean you can’t succeed in life

the system is broken, we have to deal with it and fight for inclusivity everywhere

If you have a physical disability, you deserve to be able to access things that the rest of us can

you aren’t “weak”, you aren’t “ill”, you just have a difference that makes accessing this ableist world harder

everyone deserves to be treated equally, and not based on what they are born with or what they can’t control, but what they can control.

The system needs to change, access is becoming harder and harder even with the strides that we have made

I chose Foxy as my subject because the prop he used behind the scenes reminded me of the prop paraplegic people use 🥺❤️

If you're disabled and you live independently I'm proud of you

if you're disabled and you live in assisted care I'm proud of you

If you're disabled and you live in a group home I'm proud of you

If you're disabled and you live with your parents I'm proud of you

If you're disabled and you live with any kind of support I'm proud of you.

Whether or not you're able to live independently does not determine your value. Needing help is never a bad thing.

Day Four

for @atla-polyam-week chronic pain/ disability OR arranged marriage

Toph/Suki/Yue 

Toph's disability has never bothered her, just people's reactions to it.  She's always believed that it isn't a disability, just different.

But then she met Yue, and with Yue it was different.  For Yue, her disability was more ... disabling.  And Toph just doesn't understand.  She keeps wanting to twist it in her mind and make it work.  She wants to fix it for Yue.

But Toph isn't great at feelings.  She keeps getting frustrated when Yue can't push through, can't just keep going.  Accidentally, she starts snapping at Yue, starts getting more restless when she spends time with her and Suki.

One day Suki just, has enough.  She tells Toph to take a walk and that she'll meet her in a bit.  Suki looks at Yue, and tells her that she's going to get to the bottom of this.

December 3rd is National Disability Day, or International Day of Persons with Disabilities

Heeey! My name is Kaylie. I’m 21 years old and I’ve been suffering from a chronic digestive disorder since I was in the third grade. I was in remission for a couple of years, but in 2016 it came back worse than before. Over the last couple of years (and this year especially) I’ve developed a fear of eating and sometimes it goes as far as being afraid to go places in fear that I’ll get sick or be in pain. However, I’m hopeful to go into remission again and to build a kinder and healthier relationship with food. <3 Also I’ve been reading all of your stories on your selfies and I have to say, there are some incredibly strong people in this world. I’m so inspired by all of you <3
