people like it when you're funny. you get attention for being funny. you don't get attention by asking for it. you don't get attention by saying, very plainly, "i need attention please". you don't get attention by crying, no matter how loudly or quietly or plainly or how much you try to hide it or to whom you cry to. you don't get attention if you have too many problems, or if you complain too much, or if you're too negative. you don't get attention by being yourself, if your self is too quiet or meek or weak or uninteresting or boring or weird or unlikeable. no amount of intelligence or creativity will get you attention, either, if you can't convince enough people to care, and most people won't care.
you get attention for being funny. you get attention by being a clown, not a newsboy. that's all. you're only useful to people if you can entertain them. and if you can't entertain them, you're useless.
