discombobulated
Me: casual linguist, very into Sherlock Holmes and late Victorian literature in general
My sweetie: into Guy Ritchie movies and cinematography, Jewish
We watched the first episode of Young Sherlock. Midway through the episode, neither of us is super impressed, but it's entertaining enough to finish the hour, at least.
AND THEN
We've got the suspicious foreign lady trying to seduce our hero, and our sidekick is Not Impressed. And then he says "what am I, and Ashkenazi side dish?"
And both sweetie and I go "what the fuck?"
And sweetie goes "are we establishing Moriarty as an Irish Jew?"
And I'm doing all kinds of lit math. There's probably some really interesting parallels to be drawn about the treatment of the Irish in British society and the treatment of Jews in Britain and other western cultures. That feels especially relevant for a character who goes on to be a serious villain- equal to our hero but nevertheless outcast. This isn't even too farfetched for Conan Doyle! He had a lot of flaws from modern standpoints, but I do think he was trying to work from an anti racist lens. He did it badly, but the point stands. AND if we're reading Sherlock through a queer lens (which I don't but the choice is valid) the show is establishing a level of rapport that could easily bleed into sexual tension, further establishing Moriarty as an outsider....
But apparently what the line meant was "what am I, chopped liver?"

preantepenultimate
discombobulate (English, Confusion Dialect) [ˌdɪs.kəmˈbɒb.jəˌleɪt] to confuse or disconcert; confound; bewilder (One of the submitters tried to discombobulate me, saying this word was from French, meaning "Nice to meet you." I can assure you, it is not a French word.)
preantepenultimate (English) [ˌpɹiˌæntipəˈnʌltɪmət] (often of syllables) fourth from last.

I can probably weaponize the shit out of a very high pitched voice. Like I could kinda just

My favourite word is discombobulate. I think that's how it's spelt. I forgot what it means but whenever I say it, it feels good in my mouth.
